This is way beyond my ability to help or understand. I hope some of the experts here can help Betty out. I work for a communication company (Williams Communications) and they had indicated that there had been a major fiber cut in Dallas the first part of the week. But normally that stuff gets fixed in a hurry. I'm using AT& T and Office 2000. Right now, I can bring up the .html pages, but none of the ftp pages such as: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/co/dolores/peel.txt The title bar says res"//c:winnt\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/u sgenweb/co/dolores - Microsoft Internet explorer.. Then there is a message that web sites require 128-bit encryption (which I do have). Is there anyone we can contact, that would help get this fixed? I understand the problem, but am not having any trouble working with my sites that are not on Rootsweb. Thanks for your help. That all depends on what operating system you have. With Win95, you just click on DOS, and type "tracert rootsweb.com" at the DOS prompt (no quote marks). With Win98/2000/ME, I think they are all the same: from the start menu, select Run..., and then type in "tracert rootsweb.com" in the box. Once the box pops up, select, copy and paste into an email. I thought one of your listers had sent you a traceroute? > I've got tons of uploads to do, and am getting further behind as well as > frustrated. Unfortunately, Rootsweb can't do much if the problem is outside their door! But all the extra information will help the techs put pressure on alter.net, etc. Valorie -- I shall allow no man to belittle my soul by making me hate him. - Booker T. Washington
