    3. I am Vice President of an historical society that needs to find a new Internet service provider for our web page. I had proposed we look into getting one on rootsweb, but the problem is we already have an established identity with our own domain name. If we give that up then any other web pages that are now linked to us will be disconnected. Can a non-profit historical society get a free web page on rootsweb without having a rootsweb.com domain address? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Arlington Historical Society (978) 263-4778 | 7 Jason St., Arlington, MA 02476 ahern@world.std.com | http://www.arlhs.org/ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

You can have a free web site at RootsWeb, but it *will* be hosted at www.rootsweb.com/~xxxxxxx -- where xxxxxxx is the account name assigned to your society. You can keep your own domain name, but you will need to host the domain on some other server. You can probably get a very low cost hosting arrangement based on the fact that you'll only have 1 page located on that server. In your 'index.html' page on your hosted domain, just use a redirection to your space on RootsWeb. This way, people who link to your web site using your domain name won't have to change their links. New links can be established using the RootsWeb URL. RootsWeb is very generous to offer free, unlimited web space. It's only fair to let them get a little bit of credit by having their domain name show up in the URLs. Regards, Elsi
