    3. Let's see if I can expound on this... I've been using the RootsWeb server and Cute FTP to upload the few websites for non-profit organizations and some counties in the USGenWeb project that I manager for about five years, give or take... On one of those sites I went to upload some updates and when I got a connection using Cute FTP there was no public_html folder. It used to be there or I couldn't have uploaded the page originally. I don't know what happened to it - it just disappeared sometime in the past seven months as it has been since June since the last update. So, to answer your questions: What I did: connected to CuteFTP to upload updates to the web site What I expected: to see the Public_html folder What happened: the Public_html folder is missing. In fact there are no files. The server is RootsWeb You were not clear as to why you need to know which account, but the account is the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865. The URL is http://www.rootsweb.com/~orduvcw/index.htm I hope I've understood your request for information. I didn't mean to assume anyone was a mind reader - I was only trying to keep my initial question simple. If this is not the place to ask questions, let me know. Looking at your account, there are no problems. The public_html directory is still there. You have 30 files inside the public_html directory. If you aren't seeing them, the problem is on your side. Now -- I have a theory as to what is wrong. There was a bug in CuteFTP (and also in WS_FTP) which showed up on July 1, 2000. These programs were unable to interpret the time/date stamp for files created after January 1, 2000 after those files became 6 months old. So, they simply did not display the file at all. Given that the newest file in your orduvcw account is time-stamped 15 March 2000, this is most likely the cause of the problem. To fix it, download a more recent version of CuteFTP. The bug-fix was made available about 3 July as soon as it was diagnosed. >I hope I've understood your request for information. But in order to provide answers, it helps for you to be very specific about what you were trying to do, the server that you're looking at, the account, and anything else that might give a hint to the technicians to track down the problem. There are just too many servers and user accounts to be able to provide any kind of diagnosis without a good description of symptoms. Regards, Elsi

    3. Elsi, I downloaded version 4.2 and found the public_html folder just as you suggested. Thank you for the help. Sadly, now I need to fork out some $$ for the upgrade :( Bev beverlyp@harborside.com or LadyeCloud@aol.com Ancestors in the Attic http://ladyecloud.hypermart.net/Ancestors.htm Member Association of Professional Genealogists http://www.apgen.org Yaquina Chapter NSDAR http://www.rootsweb.com/~oryaqdar/Yaquina.htm ***NGS Conference in the States, May 16-19, 2001, Portland, OR*** ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elsi" <elsi@augustmail.com> To: <RootsWeb-Help-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 29, 2001 8:14 PM Subject: Re: Lost Public_html folder > At 07:28 PM 01/29/2001 -0800, Beverly Przybylski wrote: > >Let's see if I can expound on this... > > > >I've been using the RootsWeb server and Cute FTP to upload the few > >websites for non-profit organizations and some counties in the > >USGenWeb project that I manager for about five years, give or take... > > > >On one of those sites I went to upload some updates and when I got a > >connection using Cute FTP there was no public_html folder.
