    3. they were combined into query board. truly messed and screwed is how I describe it. I expressed my strong complaint with Jake Gehring, CEO of Ancestry/ Rootsweb. no charge to see them but MANDATORY user id and password to post. Just tonight I received 3 messages from others who finally got to see what had happened to their boards and decided to abandon them totally because of following reasons: 1. all boards were combined into one "Query" board 2. require user id and password to post 3. inability to see the poster's email address in order to respond to them OFF the board. 4. "STOLEN HARD WORK" posted on Obits, Bios, Pensions, Wills, Deeds, Bible Records because they were lumped into "Query" board, inviting absolute irrevelant queries posted to those works. 5. Urls posted within those boards broken, not redirected. I am considering that if I still can't get to rest of my several boards (having finally got to see one county board and absolute did NOT like it (600+ bios on Germany, 100+ wills disconnected on one family board, over 800 obits on one county Obit board alone that had been LUMPED into useless query board) I want you to know some CCs who finally got to see theirs and deep-sixed them immediately because of insanity of lumping all into query boards. 1. [RW-Help] You figure this out.....
    2. W. David Samuelsen
    3. Joan, Please figure this out for us. I just became aware of another problem associated with changed url for the GenConnect. It's PML. Now that boards.ancestry.com is located in Provo, Utah instead of in California with other Rootsweb servers, we won't able to see any messages posted on mucked up GenConnect system. No longer able to find specific post we might be very interested in. W. David Samuelsen

    3. I have a similar situation. I have the (VTRUTLAN-L) Rutland County, VT. mailing list, and "had" all of the boards with the exception of the "query" board. I could never quite explain to the owner of the query board how to "gateway" to the list, so the queries never made it through to the list. However, all of the other boards were gatewayed and provided the bulk of the messages flowing through the list. This will be a big blow to the VTRUTLAN-L list. 3. Ok, David, I just sent the following to Jake Gehring at jgehring@ancestry-inc.com: ====================== Very bad idea you guys came up with and extremely RUDE. You have really shot yourselves in the foot this time. Why can't you people understand that "volunteers" are just that . . . "volunteers". I have spent countless hours and a great deal of money on purchasing books, etc. to help me with submitting bios, deeds, probate records, etc., etc., to the "boards" I was administering. Now, just because I took care of all of these boards all this time, but DID NOT have the query board . . . I get left with nothing. This is true for two county sets of boards I was taking care of . . . forget it, someone else can provide the information from now on. I feel quite sure I can find a better way to spend my spare time "volunteering" for something worthwhile . . . that might just be appreciated. Website: Hatcher Families Resource Center http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher List Admin: Hatcher email list Researching: Cook, Hall, Hatcher, Kuhns, Miller, Shepherd, Timberman The Hatcher Records & Documentation CD is now available!! FOR MORE INFO: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nhatcher/hatchlib.htm We need to have a specific person to send our complaints to. I doubt Jake is that person. I doubt he designed the system. I was appalled to find that all 7 GC boards had been combined with queries. I had no idea that this new msg board was also going to dump wills, deeds, etc into "queries." When I saw my board, my first thought was "How in the HELL will anyone using this system know how to search for these very valuable records and documents?" This system looks to be a major disaster! And I want to know how I can find all my non-query entries so that I can pull them off to a more organized system - even if it's on my own website. Not a happy camper! Nel

    3. absolute joke. It is a database that was stolen from LDS' Ancestral File by a dishonest person and sold to Ancestry.com LDS Church had been notified of this. Look like it is still unresolved matter. Included in this stolen database are my submissions I sent to Ancestral File years ago. W. 3. they really SCREWED it. Combined boards into ONE "Query" board - AND - requires Ancestry.com' USER ID and PASSWORD just to POST a query or bio or anything. send your objections to Jake Gehring at jgehring@ancestry-inc.com I am now seeing other messages from other CCs who are OUTRAGED over the screwed/mucked combined board message system and declared that they are DEEP-SIXing any connection to this screwed/mucked system effectively immediately. I sent a message to Jake expressing my outrage that I had been refused several times MY Ancestry.com USER ID and PASSWORD. I haven't seen my Aldrich family boards yet. If they are combined, GOOD BYE. I already saw one of my county boards - Baker County, OR - all boards had been combined. I am NOT happy. What ever happened to integrity of separate and orderly boards??? It was best system I have ever seen in use UNTIL the idiots that be chose to COMBINE all applicable boards into one "QUERY" board, killing the goose that laid the golden egg. W. I do NOT want to use Ancestry.com system of user ids and passwords becuase they forever changing my user ids and passwords in the past whenever I tried to use Ancestry.com services. This is lot worse, than when user ids were NOT required for the GenConnect Boards. Just Passwords should be simple enough. W. David Samuelsen

    1. [RW-Help] Databases
    2. Peter J Williams
    3. Hi all I'm the list-owner for the COSBURN-L surname mailing list. We have less than 10 subscribers and have only been operating for a few months, but we are all very keen, and there is not a week goes by without several messages. We would now like to collaborate on a one-name study database, recording all of the data that we have individually collected over the years. We are thinking of a table with fields like: date, place, type of event, person's name, parents or spouse, source, contributor's name & email etc etc. Does ROOTSWEB have some facility for this? We would need a web page that could be accessed by the list members (and ideally restricted to members) for entering records on a web form, and another page for viewing the resulting table of data, perhaps with clickable column headings for sorting and a facility to download a comma separated variable file (or equivalent). The records would be restricted to events involving people with the surname COSBURN and variants. There could be several thousand records involved. So, can it be done via ROOTSWEB, or do we have to build something from scratch ourselves (assuming we can cope with the steep learning curve)? Regards Peter J Williams Largs NSW Australia

    1. [RW-Help] Page size limit? Insert Code?
    2. Linda Darling
    3. Hi All, I'm a beginner at making webpages -- haven't uploaded yet, but getting close! <g> I have a couple of questions. I have a database with 538 lines of text. Is this too large -- should I break it down into a few pages?? When using the guestbook, counter, logo, etc. from Rootsweb and it says to Insert the Code, where exactly does one do this?? (no laughing, please!!) ;-) I'm using Netscape Composer for my webpage. There is something called "Edit HTML" and a box opens with all the code. Is this where I would insert it? I just want to make certain. If it wasn't the right place, and I had to go back to remove the code -- well, that could end up being disastrous!! Or my other thought was, do you just put the code right on your working page??j Thanks for any advice! Linda
