With my WS_FPC Pro, version 6.51, the highlighting of a number of contiguous files is accomplished while holding down the shift key and clicking on the last file to be included in the highlight. Using the control button does not work for this purpose. You can also just hold down your mouse and drag it over the filenames to select them (in a row - not spaced apart from each other) :o) Best wishes, Carol Hepburn chepburn@qwest.net Phoenix, AZ USA
Has anyone used Dreamweaver to upload webpages to Rootsweb? I'm having all kinds of frustrations (which I am NOT used to, having used Dreamweaver successfully for school web pages). Here are my questions: 1) do you put your files on your desktop in a public_html folder (like I'm accustomed to do)? 2) what do you put down in the Remote Info for Host Directory (public_html, like other?)? 3) in the Local Info, do you put the whole http URL for your own rootsweb genealogy site ( which for mine is <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~janeha>), or just http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com ? By the way, I also tried uploading from Netscape Composer (which has been another story in frustration) and now I can't get the %?@* page off my desktop, no matter what tricks I try. Suggestions? OK, I'll try rebooting. That worked, but it seems a bit extreme! Sigh. Gee, isn't this fun. Jane
Holding down the Control button allows you to pick any files for loading or deleting. Perhaps someone has mentioned this (I am new to the list), but you can highlight a group of contiguous files in any directory window to add or delete them all at once. Doug
Thanks to the persons who responded to my upload problems. WS-FTP was much better than AOL. Someone just should have kept telling me, "You have to upload every single item, each one - Yes, EVERYTHING!" Now my problem is getting the Rootsweb Logo on my page. I need more specific instructions as I've read and reread, but can't figure out how to do it. The instruction in question: "Copy the coding shown below.." Does this mean a cut and paste procedure? I understand about adding my own URL and deleting 'center' if I want it offset. Can it be moved once it's there? Next part says: ..."insert it within the coding for your Web site." Exactly how and where is this done? Thanks, so much. Mattie
I'm sorry, it's a virus. It got past my scanner somehow, and should mail itself to everyone in my address book. It should have some generic text message in the body and an attached file called CFGWIZ32.EXE. DO NOT OPEN IT. DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY. I'm sorry! Scott
Richard, I had trouble uploading but had to get help. Let me try to put into writing what needs to be done. 1) log onto the internet and reduce it. 2) open up ws_ftp 3) when ftp opens click on OK 4) when ftp opens up you will have on the left "local system" and on the right "remote system" 5) change the left side directory to where ever you keep you html document 6) once the left side has oppened, your "public" file should open. 7) at this point you should be able to click on the file you are uploading. To do this, click on the document you want to upload. There are two directional arrows in the center between local system and remote system. After clicking on document click on the arrow pointing to the remote system. This should do it. Sharon
I just had 3 messages come across my MOHICKOR list about free airline tickets. Quite often I have been notified that someone has tried to send spam, but this is the first time anything has come across on the list. Has there been some changes or is this hopefully the only time it slips through? Thank You.
Hi Sandra, Those emails notices only go to the list administrator - you. They are telling you that someone on your email list has a problem with their email address. You need to read each email and see what action needs to be taken. For example, a notice where it is telling you that such and such a user is unknown - you need to visit your list utilities page and remove that user. If you don't then you will get several more notices before the computer server tries to remove them (sometimes this works-sometimes it doesn't). Some of the notices will say mail quota exceeded. I don't remove these people - they will clear out their mail box eventually and the bounce notice will go away (if they don't get a clue about it soon - then I remove them). If you need more help in how to administrate your email list you should visit the Help Desk ( http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com ) and read the list owners FAQ which has a lot of very good information in it. -- Best Wishes, Carol Hepburn chepburn@qwest.net Phoenix, AZ USA
Please explain what I need to do to make sure these get sent to my list. I've had a couple dozen in the last month. Is this related to the board changes? If so what settings should I have? I want these to all get to the list. I have been searching for the fix for this problem so long that I am now retrieving, via google, a reference to the question below that I asked on this list in June. Recently I found a hint in a Borland java news group that "Monospaced" in the code should be "monospaced". I am posting this here in case someone follows that google post to this site and is disappointed to find the question without an answer. currentFont = new java.awt.Font("Monospaced", Font.PLAIN, 12 ); // should be "monospaced" Apparently some browsers will accept either "Monospaced" or "monospaced". ---John Lucey RootsWeb-Help-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Subject: [RW-Help] AOL Fixed Pitch Font problem in Java > Date: Sat, 09 Jun 2001 14:28:40 -0400 > From: John Lucey <jlucey@acm.org> > To: RootsWeb-Help-L@rootsweb.com > > I have put up a web page at <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~manifest> > that runs a Java applet for making spaced out columns for use by > Rootsweb ISTG ship list transcribers. Carol, Thanks so much. Yes, I do have WS_FTP and should have mentioned that. I found "force lowercase name" and checked it. Carmen, You didn't say which FTP client you were using. On WS_FTP simply choose "force lowercase names" through the options panel. It will make sure that anytime your file is transferred the file name stays in all lower case letters. -- Best wishes, Carol Hepburn chepburn@qwest.net Phoenix, AZ USA
