Would someone mind taking a look at the html on the following link > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ausygs/ <<<<<, and tell me what it is I need to add/change in order for the web page itself to be found in the results of a search engine. It is the web page for Yarram Genealogy Group . If I enter "Yarram Genealogy " into a search engine I get results showing other genealogy groups etc. They are shown as hyperlinks and Yarram Genealogy included in the text for that. I`ve no problems with that as obviously Yarram Genealogy is mentioned in that particular web page. What I would like is for the Yarram Genealogy Group to be shown as a hyperlink so searchers can go straight to that page ? TIA Batesy

The search engine that I am using on the Pittsylvania Cnty Homepage leads to a page, but not the specific location within that page. Is there a search engine available that I can use that is more specific? Gayle
Thanks to everyone who sent me private emails concerning a policy question concernng removing volunteers from rootsweb projects. I did not mention the name of the Project because I do not understand all of the facts. It appears that it is a complex issue. In this particular case, it is not a rootsweb.com project, it is a USGenWeb project conducted by an individual who has about 40 or so volunteers and contributors. The file, when and if ever finished, will be put on rootsweb servers. Okay, so where does the responsibility end or begin for project. The lady that donated a copy of her typing to another website was kicked off the project. Maybe the manager acted by the strictest letter of his project bylaws, but others who gave out information were just warned, not kicked off. Don't we have room for compassion in genealogy? Well, the project was out a three dollars in postage mailing the hard copies to her. OTOH, she was out a few hundred dollars in typing time. When the data is finally submitted to USGenWeb they can safely say they were not part of the management of the project. Okay, a pawn-broker can say he did not steal the pawned item, he only sold it. I won't bother anyone any more on this list concerning this. I will open a website to protest the actions of this project manager when the project goes online. Thanks again for all of the emails and advice. Charles Barnum, CC Lincoln County NM
Hi, Are there some Eudora users that can tell me how to transfer files (mailboxes and address book) from my old computer to my new computer? Eurdora 5.0 is on my old computer; 5.1 is on my new computer----the basic free program. I can't seem to find anything within the Euroda folder in my file structure that looks like it would be either mailboxes or address book. Carmen Finley
Dick - Did you also upload the actual image? FP will upload the thumbnail because it is stored with your actual page, but you'll also need to upload the image itself, probably to an image sub-directory if you have one. I use Frontpage to set up and publish my pages. For months I have never had a problem using thumbnail pictures. The one I tried to upload today does not work. When I click on it, instead of an enlargement, I get a white screen with a small picture of a torn movie film with what might be a magnifying glass in it. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. The picture is at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~patrak01/ then click on my family tree; then click on 8x9.
I have a question about rootsweb.com policy concerning a compiler who submitted data to a rootsweb sponsored project, and because she shared her data--and her data only, with another person who put it on his own website, she was booted off the project after doing hundreds of hours of typing of state death records. I had it in my mind a compiler could share data with anyone so desired, especially public domain records. I'd like to get as much feedback as possible before I go to the public forums and lists to complain about it. Is there an official rootsweb.com policy about this sort of thing. I believe a terrible injustice has been done to a gentle, loving grandmother who I know and respect. Charles Barnum

Donald, unfortunately you didn't include FULL headers, so it's difficult to say. Also, since this list is for help with Rootsweb websites, not lists, you may not find many 'experts' here, like you would on Listowners-L or Newbie-Listowner-L. Anyway, to display full headers in Outlook Express, quoting other listowners: "When the message is open File > Properties. Then select Details. You can highlight, then copy the information using Ctrl-C (keyboard shortcut), or doing the usual Right Click and select copy. You can do the same thing with the message closed by Right Clicking on the message and then selecting Properties. And then Details again. ... "After you select "Details," then at the bottom of the window, select "Message Source", then hit the full screen button. (the square in the upper right corner between the "-" and the "X". The part you are looking for is in the second half of the page, after all the bold type a little way it will say "- - - - -Transcript of session follows- - - -" select from there to the end, I THINK I FINALLY GOT IT. --- You can tell when you are seeing the full headers -- You will see the lines starting with "X-diagnostic:". These lines tell you what Smartlist thinks about this bounce, and what he has done about it. In this case, we need the FULL headers to see what might be going on. You say that someone was booted off a "RootsWeb sponsored project" but you didn't identify the project. If the project is one of the volunteer projects that RootsWeb *hosts* then the decision wouldn't lie with RootsWeb, but rather with those who run the project in question. You should direct your question to them and not to RootsWeb. If the question DOES actually pertain to RootsWeb itself then the question would best be addressed to the HelpDesk: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi Joan

I apologize to Pam and the group for including her entire sentence in my reply "Re: Writing on Images." Should have put only "How did you get the names inside the ring of flowers, <snip>" Pam is by no means a 'dummy.' I've seen her page. It's beautiful! There are no dumb questions. So, I apologize for being a thoughtless dummy. -- Shari
Pam wrote: <snip> <How did you get the names inside the ring of flowers, told you I am a dummy but still willing to learn.> Open your image into your image software program and use the text tool. Each brand of software uses different formats for editing images. I use Print Shop Pro 7 Software - I believe you can download a 30 day free trial at CNet [a reasonably safe place to shop] http://download.cnet.com/downloads/. When you get to CNet Dowload page, click on Multimedia & Design software. There are great tutorial for PSP at: http://www.web-helper.net/PSP7/default.asp & http://www.grafx-design.com/psp_tut.html . PSP is not the easiest software to get to know so the tutorials have helped me very much. Hope I'm not breaking any RootsWeb rules by touting PSP & CNet. If so, I apologize. I'll not do it again. Using Netscape 4.05 on a 386 running WIN 3.1 -- http://www.garden.rootsweb.com/~garden-ponds/photos/lisa/lisa.htm appears to be a instant-push. It came up, the URL showed correctly in the title line (above the page) and in the "loading" bar at the bottom. Then suddenly, it switched to a 404-File not found, and the RW text reported that http://www.garden.rootsweb.com/~garden-ponds/photos/lisa/overlib.css could not be found on this machine. Whoever owns Garden-Ponds might ought to double-check that they DID (1) not use Front-page extensions and (b) upload everything they needed to. The fact that it first showed up correctly and then changed before displaying anything at all, suggests STRONGLY that it's a push. It switched so rapidly, I was unable to capture the source to confirm it, though.
