Hi I had to have my Windows restored. I lost my website info. I've put it all back together but can't get the info to reload properly.. The 2 are under "Public". According to my notes, my file chain is 'Web/home0001/usa/nm/nmsodar' into Public. When I do it that way the website doesn't show online. It comes up under 'nmsodar/nmsodar'. Could someone please let me know if my chain is correct, if my address in my FTP is correct- if not- where have I gone wrong. I want to get back online. Huge Thank You Anita in NM

When using properties in Windows 98, does the "files" number take in the files that are in sub directories, or just the parent directory? In other words, if I read there are xx subdirectories and xx files, is this giving me the number of files in the main directory plus the sub directories, or must I add them to the total? I have recently been allocated a new site at Rootsweb, and in the process I got two confirmations of the site, plus two that I had been subbed to this list in D mode. Since I was already subbed to this list in L mode, do I have to do anything to combine these two/three, or does the list compare e-mail addresses and combine them into one mailing? Any ideas what I'm doing wrong with the animated gifs? I found one I adored, and right-clicked Save Image As. RootsWeb's web servers run on the Linux operating system. I *think* all of them are currently on Red Hat 6.2, but they may have been upgraded. The HTTP server is Apache -- which ever release was in the Red Hat distribution, I presume. Your particular behaviour, however, is not pertinent to unix systems. Rather, it's the usual interpretation of a trailing / in a URL and the way in which the HTTP protocol dictates that a web server is to create a complete URL from a URL fragment in the href=" " portion of an anchor tag. This gotcha would seem to be an artifact of UNIX/Linux-based web servers. Does anyone know the technical info on the hardware/software configuration for RootsWeb's server machines? The HTTP headers coming back say Apache 1.3.12 (Unix) for the web server. I couldn't find anything on the help pages. Do they not publish this info? I work for a communication company (Williams Communications) and they had indicated that there had been a major fiber cut in Dallas the first part of the week. But normally that stuff gets fixed in a hurry. I'm using AT& T and Office 2000. Right now, I can bring up the .html pages, but none of the ftp pages such as: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/co/dolores/peel.txt The title bar says res"//c:winnt\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/u sgenweb/co/dolores - Microsoft Internet explorer.. Then there is a message that web sites require 128-bit encryption (which I do have). Is there anyone we can contact, that would help get this fixed? I understand the problem, but am not having any trouble working with my sites that are not on Rootsweb. Thanks for your help. With Win98/2000/ME, I think they are all the same: from the start menu, select Run..., and then type in "tracert rootsweb.com" in the box. Once the box pops up, select, copy and paste into an email. Hi, Yes, there are many ways to accomplish this depending on what software and hardware are available to you. I can give examples but the best solution for you will depend on your specific environment. For example, it is possible to use a data dictionary in association with the archives database. The data dictionary can be used to further remove messages automatically from the database. Depending on the operating system, shell scripts can accomplish the same thing. Of course it is always easier to prevent a problem than to fix one so systematic reviews of the existing filters are always a good practice. The difficult part comes in choosing what to include/exclude from the data dictionary so that the baby does not go out with the bath water :-) Cheers Elsi wrote: > At 04:39 PM 10/28/01 EST, McStumped@aol.com wrote: > >I would like to find out if there is any way to remove spam that has > bypassed > >the Rootsweb filters and is now in the archives of a list. Yes, it is possible if the message is offensive enough to warrant the extra work to remove it. 1. Find the offending message in the list archives. 2. Send a note to listmaster@rootsweb.com and give her the list name, date of the posting, and enough information to locate the message in the archives. (The URL returned from a search of the list is not good enough since these change every night when the archives are reindexed.) There's no guarantee that it will be removed -- the decision is up to the listmaster. Regards, Elsi

I would like to find out if there is any way to remove spam that has bypassed the Rootsweb filters and is now in the archives of a list. I have been unable to find a way to do this through the admin page, and am not even sure if this is possible. Can someone tell me yes or no, and if so, how to accomplish this. Perhaps the subscription attempt failed because the actual list name for the Iowa Buchanon County list is: IABUCHAN-L@rootsweb.com Try sending the subscription attempt to: IABUCHAN-L-request@rootsweb.com If you still have a problem subscribing contact the list admin at: IABUCHAN-admin@rootsweb.com Best of luck!
