Valorie, I haven't seen any responses to your question yet, so I'll speak up. I have always done my meta-tags the way your husband says, with commas and spaces. This is the way I was shown and taught in the classes I took at HWG (HTML Writer's Guild). Everything I put on the web has meta-tags, usually 3 or 4 on each separate page. See my signature line at the end of these messages and look at the codes. The list pages are the more recent ones. They also have the better meta-tags IMHO. ;o) There are some web sites that will help you with meta-tags also, if I remember right. Have you tried a search on the web yet? I can try a search if you want. Val asked about META tags in her documents. I tend to refer to the authorities when these type of questions come up. So, I went to W3C (World-Wide Web Consortium at w3c.org) to see what their site says. It doesn't explicitly describe how to code multiple keywords in one content block except to say that they must be comma-separated values. In fact, two different examples are coded differently. One has commas and spaces and the other has commas only. Both WDVL (Web Developer's Virtual Library at wdvl.com) and Search Engine Watch (searchenginewatch.com) show examples with comma and spaces, though neither one comes right out and says that the spaces are required. I didn't find anything on the couple of search sites that I looked at (AltaVista and Google) which told me whether the spaces are required. So -- to be safe, use comma followed by a space. But be *sure* to use commas since the specification says it's required or else the words are considered a phrase. Regards, Elsi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi, Is it just me or is everyone being inundated with posts to their lists from Korea, Japan, or somewhere in the far East? Sometimes, I get 5, a day. They are in Korean and they are spam because one, had photos of merchandise (one was a car dealer I think) and an online catalog. I can and have stopped some of them, by using the filter on the lists but, I still get them personally as listowner, then when I stop one, more pop up. What is going on? Does anyone know? I've been making some pages for my mail lists, so that (hopefully) some more newbies will find us when they get their new computers. For instance, you can add a Post-em to an SSDI entry, on User-contributed Databases, and on Vital Records that are still available online at RootsWeb. Wherever you see the link that says Add Post-em they are available. They are not available on individually maintained Web sites though--only where you see the link to add a note. The person who has the virus is then unsubbed from the list and notified that they are sending the virus. That has helped tremendously, and the person who received the virus message is not subjected to more of them by posting to the list again. I haven't received any yet today, but received a lot earlier in the week. To contact the list owner for any Rootsweb mailing list, send a message to <LISTNAME-admin@rootsweb.com> and substitute the name of the list where it says LISTNAME. Connie

Thanks to all who have notified me that a msg had been received from me which was infected with a virus. You were all quite correct but the virus which was received from an unknown source extracted your address (and others not in my address book) and sent various msg to you for which I do apologize. This virus does not require the receiver to open any attachment, only that you read the msg itself. I understand that it will not attack your computer if the msg is just previewed. A fix for this virus was just added to the Symantec website. It cleaned my computer in a matter of a few minutes and a rerun indicated that I was virus free. Additional info can be found at http://www.symantec.com/downloads/ Symantec Security Response is currently tracking two threats. Both threats have a rating of Category 4 Severe). W32.Badtrans.B@mm is a MAPI worm that emails itself out as one of several different filenames. W32.Aliz.Worm is an SMTP mass mailer worm that can be executed just by reading or reviewing the file. An addendum to Susan Taylor's message - In Netscape Messenger, go to View Show and make sure Message is unchecked. It's a little inconvenient, because you have to double click a message to get it to open, but that way you won't even open a suspicious email. Once deleted don't forget to empty your trash! Thanks to everyone for replies to my query. I agree with Ron, virus detectors do not catch a new virus right off. Believe I received a couple of blank messages before Norton starting catching it and I had just updated that morning. But I never opened any attachments to "let it loose". I use Eudora mail, so haven't had as many as those with Outlook, relatively few, in fact. Norton just caught one this morning. Age old deal with List subscribers, they always think that the List is spreading the virus, so just wanted to confirm that wasn't the case. This behavior is right up there with vandalism. Anyways the subjects of these worm infected E-mails may have a mail list insert with the subject of a posting I made or may have only Re: None of them are coming through the mail lists on RootsWeb. How do I know? I have checked the headers of all of these E-mails. If the E-mail came from a mail list it would carry headers like: To: MAESSEX-L@rootsweb.com Resent-From: MAESSEX-L@rootsweb.com X-Mailing-List: <MAESSEX-L@rootsweb.com> archive/latest/3301 X-Loop: MAESSEX-L@rootsweb.com None of them did. Many people are having trouble checking the headers of their E-mail without actually clicking and activating the E-mail. Here are a few tips: TO check headers without opening mail: 1. Eudora E-mail program: It has an actual E-mail IN box file called IN.MBX. Open this file in a text editor like NotePad - though I prefer Notepad+ that puts to shame the notepad that comes with Windows. Do a Find search once the file is open in the text editor for the suspected message and look at all the headers. I can't guarantee the following will not trigger a suspected E-mail on these MS E-mail programs but do know they will not open the message: <do not left click any of the suspected E-mail!!!> 2. MS Outlook Express: ***Right*** click - not left click - the listed message in the IN box. On the drop down menu select "Properties" and then select the "Detail" tab. You will see the Internet Headers. I highly recommend ***not*** having a preview window. I have heard that a preview window may??? activate some viruses without even opening the message. Nowwww I can not swear to this for have just heard it mentioned on some MS newsgroups. To get rid of the Preview window: View > Layout > deselect "Preview Pane." 3. MS Outlook: ***Right*** click - not left click - the listed message in the Inbox. On the drop down menu select "Options" You will see the Internet Headers at the bottom of this window. Again I don't recommend having the Preview window. To get rid of the Preview window: View > deselect "Preview Pane" and "Auto Preview." 4. Netscape Messenger: Not sure how to do it in this program without actually clicking on the message. I know you can see alllll the headers and the message coding by highlighting the message and then selecting on the menu bar: View > Page source. Also if you click the message the headers will show in the preview screen if you have View > Headers > ALL selected. Now I don't know if the Preview window in Netscape can be as dangerous as the ones reported in the MS Outlook mail programs may be???? My E-mail Program of choice is Eudora and browser of choice is Netscape; however, do have IE and all the MS Outlook E-mail programs on-board.
