    1. [RW-Help] Re: possible virus/worm activity on list?
    2. Amy C. Jude Keaton
    3. Hello all, I received a suspicious email this morning from a person I do not know, which contained what appeared to be a partial message requesting or giving genealogical information, and had what appeared to be a random .exe file attached. With the possibility in mind that this may be related somehow to my participation in the list, I thought I would post this information FYI just as a heads up in case we are, indeed, passing things around again. The message originated from a sender named James McBroom. I have already contacted him directly to inform him of the message and suggest that he scan his system. The subject line was "Born to Claire" The text of the message was "Born to Claire and John(?) Richardso" The attached file was titled, "billmind.exe". From what I can tell, which isn't much, this file is one from Quicken, and not an actual worm/virus .exe. I am far from being an expert on viruses/worms, and this message contains just about all that I know in regard to this message. I would welcome any comments from those of you who know more about such things. Peace, Amy C. Jude Keaton

    3. Hi Richard, You can save it (or any image) by clicking on your right mouse button, then select "Save Image As..." and then put it in your files, wherever you want. 1. [RW-Help] Photos on Web page
    2. Sharen Williams
    3. I'm asking for help again from all you who are more experienced than I at this Web page thing. I now have Macromedia's Dreamweaver per your kind suggestions however, I am having a lot of trouble when I try to include photographs on my webpage. When I upload to the site a message comes on for each picture saying "An FTP error occured - cannot put (whatever my photo is).jpg. Permission denied on server [Filename [accept]]" on each picture. I first tried to put them in without loading linking them under the Dreamweaver site but although I could see the pictures on my computer when I went online others said they couldn't bring up the pictures. So now I linked them under my site in Dreamweaver and even I can't get the pictures to come up when I go online. Would some of you check and see if the "Photos" page is coming up and the "More" page? they both have pictures included. If not maybe someone can give me a clue as to what I'm doing wrong. Please reply in detail as to what to do - I'm new at this. Thank you. Sharen

    3. Generally, the "search box" code can be placed on any -- or all! -- pages. In setting up the search engine parameters you will specify the "beginning" of the site to be indexed. Some search engines will even allow multiple starting points, or exclusion pages. -- Regards, Rod Dav4is / P.O. 3. Help - When I try to edit a new html page, it will only accept the first 30,000 bytes. Often, this means only a portion of my document gets uploaded and I have to put it on two or three pages - as in family histories etc. Is this a default restriction? or is there a way to upload more than 30,000 bytes of text to a single page? comments please _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx

    3. Hi Lorraine, You can add your own little search engine, just for your site. Go to http://www.picosearch.com/ and download the code. I use them at several sites and another nice thing, it's free. Regards, John New Orleans ---------------------- Lorraine Hatfield wrote: > > Hello everyone! I'm new to this so please bear with me. 1. [RW-Help] Help: Scanner Question
    2. Heather Waddingham
    3. Hi! I have had a frustrating day:) I have been trying to "scan" documents to use on my next update. They appear to scan fine, and looks OK in the preview box etc. (I am using Corel Photo House). However, when I load the page this is what I end up with... tricolored scanned document and the words have all "moved" on the page... see this page http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbcampob/bap1876-77.htm Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can fix this?? I have also scanned smaller images which are not quite "right" either.... http://www.rootsweb.com/~nbcampob/pcard5.htm Any suggestion greatly appreciated... the scanner was working fine two weeks ago. I have no idea what "happened" to make it not work all of a sudden. Thanks! 2. Rod Dav4is
    3. Reference page: http://boards.rootsweb.com/ (this is not the only instance) I get a scripting error with all three of my browsers: Opera (5.50), Netscape (4.7) and MSIE (6.0). All three complain of an error like: "document.rookie" is null or not an object. Looking at the page source, I see the phrase "document.rookie" appears several times in the script code. After ignoring the error, which may occur several times, all three browsers render the page. Login links, such as on the reference page, elicit the error message also. Nothing resembling a login form is presented, however. -- Regards, Rod Dav4is / P.O. 3. Actually Drew, something you said kicked in something in my brain. When this fails, and the Session Properties window comes up the next time, it does say "GA Worth" in the Host Name/Address field. I, of course, did not put it there, so it has to be a glitch in the program. Just as a test, I went in and installed my WS_FTP into another new directory, tried to log in and it worked. Go figure... I have no idea why it is doing this, but it looks like I get to uninstall and reinstall my FTP Client! Thanks for the help. I knew I wasn't losing my mind! :-) Mary Kozy Worth Co., GA CC DrewSmithFSGS@aol.com wrote: > Mary, > > >From the prompts you're getting, it sounds like you've got "GA Worth" in the > Host Name/Address field. 3. I am entering the userid as "gaworth", just as the directions said. I am also putting it in the correct field. I am using users.rootsweb.com in the host name/address field. Here is what I have entered: Under Session Properties, I clicked the "New" button. Then I entered: Profile Name: GA Worth Host Name/Address: users.rootsweb.com (I also tried ftp://users.rootsweb.com, and http://users.rootsweb.com) Host Type: Auto. Detect (I also tried specifying UNIX (Standard)) U s e r I D: gaworth P@sswurd: the one sent to me (tried typing it, as well as copying/pasting) and clicked Save Pwd (also tried it without clicking Save Pwd) I still am getting this error. Believe me when I say that I have tried many different iterations of the above (knowing that UNIX is case sensitive) to no avail. I still cannot get it to work. I have tried deleting the account and starting over; no help. At this point, it won't even allow me to "make" an account, since I can't access the server. This is really maddening..... Mary

    1. [RW-Help] Need HELP with FTPing to my new account with WS_FTP LE
    2. Mary Kathryn Kozy
    3. Hi! I just received the information for my newest Rootsweb account (I have 6 others). Upon entering all the information into the slots in my WS_FTP LE FTP client, I get a pop-up window that says: "Please enter a userid for connection with GA Worth:" with a blank line for me to enter my userid. I entered the one that I was given, and then receive the following error message: !Can't get "GA Worth" host entry !Connection failed GA Worth I am at my wits end. I have contacted the person that sent me the account information, and she said that she can access it with WS_FTP with no problems. That's fine, but I can't. All my other FTP accounts are working. I've checked all the different options under the Session Properties window and its various tabs to see if perhaps I'm missing something. I've added "public_html" as the remote startup directory. I have double-checked that I'm using all lower case letters, I have tried typing in the various userid and passwords, as well as copying and pasting them; all to no avail. I've been using this FTP Client for over 4 years now, and have never run into this problem. Can someone please help me figure this out? I managed to upload a few pages to the site using my browser, but as many of you probably know, it is hardly the most efficient way to do things, and I can't figure out how to upload a new subdirectory using this method. I love WS_FTP, but I'm having a hard time with this, and I need to get this page up and running. HELP! Mary Kozy mkozy@attglobal.net Worth Co., GA CC USGenWeb
