Thanks to all who checked out the site. It was very much appreciated! I don't know what my visitor was seeing to scare her, but I guess I panicked a little myself :) All I could see was two months of hard work to bring a dormant site back to life gone in one fell swoop! As tactfully as possible, I emailed her to tell her the site was clean. Thanks again for all your quick responses! Take care, Lorraine
Hi list, Last week I sent a message (see below) to those who had posted to the web site last year. Today, I got the following message from someone to whom I sent this message. What is she talking about? A virus on my web site? Makes no sense. Can anyone give me a clue what is going on here? Unfortunately, she replied to the entire list which is going to make all those folks think the web site is contaminated--geez, that's all I need! I know last week we went through this virus thing with another site and of course it was Norton anti-virus doing the damage! Here's the site! http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohbrown/index.htm Help is greatly needed and appreciated so I can contain the damage this one email is going to cause! The reason for this brief email is twofold. 1) During the past six to seven months you either posted a query or submitted a surname to the registry for Brown County Ohio. I am trying to verify that the email addresses are still valid. If this email is returned to me, I will know to remove the posting from the list. 2) If you haven't already, I want to take this opportunity to invite you to visit the new OHGenWeb website. There have been some big changes to the site and new data is added frequently. We have pictures of our Brown County ancestors (some known, some not), bios and are in the process of adding a history for each township. There is also a new and improved surname registry as well as an easier to follow query site and plans are in the works for much more useful information for our Brown County Researchers. Check out the new Brown County OHGenWeb page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohbrown/index.htm Your comments, suggestions and submissions are always welcome! Thanks, Lorraine Hatfield Brown County OHGenWeb County Coordinator

Sandy- We're really better equipped on this list to address *RootsWeb* questions than we are to guess about hotmail accounts and accessing msn's hotmail pages. If I were you and wanted help with hotmail's pages I'd ask hotmail tech support. That said, it sounds like it COULD be a DNS issue or possibly a corrupted cache file in your temporary Internet files. Try clearing your cache and rebooting (rebooting solve a multitude of sins). I'm not sure whether hotmail uses javascript on their pages but you may wish to check and see if you have javascript enabled just in case. Not being able to login could be connected to javascript if they use it for their login process. If you use any program on your computer that might be caching DNS--this could result in your inability to access the page if the DNS has changed. Joan
I have a strange problem accessing my Hotmail email account that I use as State Coordinator. All of a sudden I'm getting "The document contained no data...." message when I try to go to www.hotmail.com to check my mail, so I never get to the Hotmail home page. This is with Netscape Navigator. Trying with MS Explorer, I get to the home page to try to log in, but it doesn't actually log me in. I have no trouble accessing this account from other computers, so I've got a setting goofed up somewhere. I use Norton Internet Security 2002. I have it set to accept all cookies, and I have Netscape configured to accept cookies. Any ideas!?!? By mistake I did something that prevents the icon from going to the taskbar when I press "Minimize". Now, it's the same as if I closed it. For example, when writing a letter I'd like to minimize it while I get a quote from another site. Instead of an icon appearing on the taskbar at the bottom (as previously done), nothing at all appears and the letter is not to be found, as if I had closed it. And I have to start all over again. Can you help me correct my error and give me some hints, so I don't do it again? Many thanks, John New Orleans
Hi David: You don't need a java script code to do this, all you need to is add the phrase "Target=NEW" to your A HREF code like this: a href="WhateverWebpage.html" Target=NEW>Page Title Here</A (don't forget to add the opening and closing "<" and ">" .. this should go as text across the mail, but I didn't want it converted to html through the mail!) As far as I know, this will work in all browsers! Good luck!! Well, after all these years, I found that all I needed was to type a space in the cell of the table to stop it from collapsing! I want to thank everyone for all the time you took to help me. I used books and searched the web extensively and could find the answer. Thanks again. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002

Pat -- I have a 1 pixel transparent gif, but you'd never be able to find it to click & download from my pages. If you'd like, I can send as a file attachment. Have you tried just putting a non-breaking space in the table cell? The HTML symbol is (& n b s p ;) Regards, Elsi
Besides a transparent gif, you can just hit the space bar in a WYSIWYG program to insert a non-breaking-space. The code is on the next line. Hi Pat, I simply put a period in the space. It's unobtrusive and maintains the lines for the cell. Try it, you'll like it. I need a transparent gif to put in my table cells where I don't have any data. The cell collapses without data, therefore, no lines are evident to delineate the cell. If the society plans to provide some kind of answer then the suggestions given are quite helpful. As a USGenWeb County Coordinator, I don't have volunteers to look at the queries and provide any answers. All I commit to do is post the queries for others to read and respond to. I'm particularly fond of using MailMerge to collect the queries and CCHelper to manage them. I set up a MailMerge form to collect the queries and post them temporarily to a file which can be viewed immediately. Quarterly, I download the file, import the queries into CCHelper, and upload the organized queries, and then purge the temporary file. You can see this in action at http://www.rootsweb.com/~alcalhou/qryindex.htm Regards, Elsi
