    3. Many thanks for all the responses, both on the Help line and directly. Some even did the job for me, using programs other than Paint. For those interested in the responses, primarily I wanted to learn HOW to do it. We all know the old saying, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life." The most useful answer came from Drew Smith, who wrote: "Use the Select tool (the dotted Rectangle at the top right of the Tool Box). After clicking on the Select tool, click on the top left of the image you want to keep, and then drag down to the bottom right until you've encompassed the entire image. Then click on Cut in the Edit menu. Then open up an entirely new, empty image (New under the File menu), and then go to Paste under the Edit menu. You should now see the image you cut without the extra white space. You can now save the new version of the image." So if you're dealing with that problem, there's the solution. It worked beautifully. The results are at http://wymple.gs.net/~longstrt/hotel.html Many thanks Drew, and all who so generously shared their skill and insight. Regrds, John New Orleans

The image is at >http://wymple.gs.net/~longstrt/piedmt-sktch.html John, To crop that image, all you have to do is use the square Select tool at the top of the column of tools. Drag the box so it includes just the portion of image you want. Release the mouse button, and move it over the image until you see a cross ( + ), then click and drag the image will to where ever you want (in this case just move it to the left). Release the mouse button when the image is placed correctly. Now you will have all that white space on the right;-) To get rid of that, go to the right edge of the box and when a two way arrow appears, drag it to the left to resize the picture. This will get rid of all the "white" without skewing the picture. I think Paint is one of the least appreciated power tool on any computer. MacPaint (from the original MacIntosh) is a little bit better than the current MS Paint IMHO, but either are real work horses. Rel@ively, Patrice

    3. Gordon, it is unwise to keep the ONLY copy of your website on your host server. What if they lost it? ALWAYS keep an faithful image (meaning the structure and content) on your own computer. Then, repairs or additions are simpler: make and test the change on your PC, THEN upload to the server. Now, how to download? First, you should be using an FTP client that allows this. I use FTPx -- FTP Explorer: http://www.ftpx.com/ It has a very intuitive and user-friendly interface which closely resembles Windows Explorer: * Partitioned window with directory structure on left and file list on right * File list presentation in multiple forms, just like your local Explorer: list, details, etc. * Drag and drop for upload and download. I.e. drag a bunch of files from a folder on your PC to the FTPx window to upload, and reverse for download. * You can define multiple profiles with connection details so that connecting to a particular site is just a click away. I don't think that it could be made any easier! -R. Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention: IT'S FREE! 3. Looks ok to me! If you want your name to be centered, you need to take out all the "&nbsp;&nbsp" in front of "by Betty Eichhorn", which put in unnecessary spaces. It looks a little wide for my screen, as I tend to do 600x800 pixels. I think you've got a bit of a "sidebar" extended down from the space shuttle graphic, that pushes your 700 pixel wide table over to the right. Put in a few <br><br> to move down out of the image's way, maybe? I also noticed at the top you've got a table which is 700 wide, but the rows end up wider than 700, btw (152+593+745): <TABLE WIDTH="700" BORDER="0" CELLSPACING="2" CELLPADDING="0" HEIGHT="364"> <TR> <TD WIDTH="152" HEIGHT="24"> <FONT SIZE="+1">Volume 15, Issue 1</FONT></TD> <TD WIDTH="593" HEIGHT="24"> <P ALIGN=RIGHT><B>March 2002</B><FONT SIZE="+1">&nbsp;</FONT></TD> </TR> Gloria At 03:54 AM 3/17/02 -0500, you wrote: >Hi, > >I could use some help.
