John- If you mean from the perspective of a list administrator (I say that because list admins are usually the ones who need to do some interpretation of headers) you might search on the word headers in the listowners-L archives or ask specific questions about headers and interpreting them on that list. There is almost always some discussion of interpreting headers going on on that list. Joan

Either the mail isn't making it to him and is bouncing (in which case you should be receiving the bounces as list admin) or they are just trashing or queueing the mail and he may receive it later on or not at all. In any case, he would need to check with his ISP about it. However, there are a couple other possibilities. First, have the subscriber check his mail filters to be sure he didn't receive the messages and that they haven't been filtered off to a folder where he wasn't expecting to look for them. Second, there may have been private replies made that are referenced in later list messages -- so he might not be missing anything at all--checking the list archives will answer that question for him. http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ Joan

    1. [RW-Help] Thanks: I Can Now Upload Changes
    2. Nelson Dean
    3. Many thanks to those subscribers who offered advice on how I could upload changes to my web page using FrontPage 2000 publisher to homepages.rootsweb.com. I am pretty sure the problem was my internet service provider (ISP), America On Line (AOL). I think AOL changed its system to not allow FTP to an address with "public_html" suffix. The problem was solved by using a high speed cable ISP. I was paying $20/month for AOL. My new ISP is only $25/month. Again, thanks for your assistance. Nelson Dean

    1. [RW-Help] Transfer Problems
    2. This is my first attempt at requesting help. Hope Someone can help me. A few weeks ago I was hit by a virus and was wiped out. Backup was bad and had to go to one that was over a year old. Due to this I lost my web site. I also lost my transfer program (FTP-pro). Request a new transfer program and received it. I also downloaded my website (index and pages) from Rootsweb. (rootsweb.com/~okegs) I mad a few corrections and wanted to transfer the corrected page back to the website. Will not transfer through the transfer program. I am working with them but would like to know something. When looking at the pages that I downloaded from the website I noticed the HTML codes changed around etc. Meaning the same as I want them but would any changes prevent the transfer back to my website. 3. I have several county sites and I have a reunion page on each one of them for people that wish to post their reunions of any kind. I got tired of the same problems with the universal calendar so decided to make my own per county and let anyone with ties to that county use it. It's a lot simpler. Dennis, You mean this one? http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw& p=localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.jessamine&m=2618 If you go down thru the boards to the county in question, and put "Ahern" in the search box (make sure that "Jessamine Board" is selected), the obituary pops right up. Is > this where everything is going to end up some day after the gazillionth > redesign? > Dennis- Surname Helper used to index the old GenConnect boards which have not been in use since last June when the new combined RootsWeb/Ancestry message boards were launched. Surname Helper has not yet been updated (and I'm not sure whether it ever will be or not) to index the new message boards. The new boards have their own search engine which can do more sophisticated searches than Surname Helper's surname-only searches. So whenever a Surname Helper search leads you to a post on the old boards, go to: http://boards.rootsweb.com and then to the board where Surname Helper indicated the post was--the one you are interested in. Then do a search of that board to find it. All of the old posts are still on the new boards--the problem is one of finding them if accessing them from Surname Helper. Joan

    2. Cleadie B. Barnett
    3. Two questions -- 1) When I use my present version of Netscape Composer I find that there is a "carry over" of the directory URL when I move a file to a new directory. That is, if I make a page in a temporary directory, then move it where I want it to be, I will still see the name of the temporary directory in all the links on that page. I have to alter all the links before it will upload correctly to my website. This never happened with an older version. Is there anyway to turn this carry over off? (Now using 4.79) 2) What make Netscape tables different and give some users problems? Is it in the heading f the file? When I hand code or use Netscape Composer, the tables are identical, so am wondering why everyone says there is a problem with Netscape when picked up by other browsers. The files always go through validators correctly, but I am wondering if I should be editing out something in the headers ??? Cleadie B.
