There wouldn't be any way to stop someone from going through list archives and boards and manually gathering addresses but that is unlikely for a bigtime spammer as it would be very time consuming. This sounds as if it is genealogy-oriented and there are probably many genealogy sites on the Net where your address could have been harvested. Joan

    3. Thanks to all you fine people for your suggestions. You seem to have solved my "Insufficient memory" problem. I downloaded "Note Tab Light" (free) and it accepted the document I had been working on. The culprit does indeed seem to be an anemic NotePad. Thanks a bunch. Jo

Any suggestions? Because Word for Windows creates extremely bloated HTML, it's possible that the HTML file you're attempting to work with is too big for Notepad to handle. WordPad is designed to manage much larger files by only loading portions of it into memory at a time. Regards, Elsi

Anything you attempt to enter that goes beyond 30K gives the error "insufficient memory to complete this operation." It doesn't matter whether you're using a streamlined or bloated version of HTML - it's the total K of your web page. I downloaded and use Editpad (free) which allows any amount of text and have not had a problem since. It's the limitations of Notepad that is the culprit here. Nel

    3. I had same problem before. the problem is fragmented hard drive. You need to defrag (optimize) the hard drive to recover lots of empty sectors. If you have Norton Systemworks, it will do better job than Windows ME (200). 3. Jo, You can save the document in Word as Text Only and save having to copy and paste it into WordPad. Do be sure to check for hidden codes though because words puts a lot of "stuff" in there. It is my least favorite way to do web pages. 3. Hi all Actually, that copyright page was never an "official" rootsweb site. I moved it from rootsweb quite a while back, but left a redirect link there so that people would still be able to get to it from old references and not have a broken link. Since then, I have created a new website called Copyright CopySense that has more detailed information on copyright and looks at copyright from a different perspective. It is located at http://stellar-one.com/copyright/crcs-copyright_duration.html The old "U.S. Copyright and Genealogy" pages have been updated and improved and are located at: http://stellar-one.com/copyright/genealogy.htm Mike Goad -----Original Message----- From: Dan M [mailto:wb@wvi.com] Sent: Friday, May 31, 2002 1:39 PM To: RootsWeb-Help-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RW-Help] Copyright Question http://www.rootsweb.com/~mikegoad/copyright1.htm Dan see http://www.wvi.com/~wb ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ray Henderson" <Ray.Henderson@earthlink.net> To: <RootsWeb-Help-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 31, 2002 1:25 PM Subject: [RW-Help] Copyright Question > There is, or at least used to be, a page at > RootsWeb which contained information > on expiration dates of copyrighted material > and general copyright information. > > Would someone please point me to that "Copyright FAQ"? > > > Thanks > > Ray > > > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

    3. John, There is one way I can think of quickly to fix your problem. If you wish, use " " (without the quotes) for EACH space between the period and the number. This should work. The stands for non-breaking space. Some browsers will not like using so many in a row, and they may not display the leading periods correctly either. Is there a reason to use the leading periods? I think it would look fine without them. Just my humble opinion.
