If you want someone to be able to click on the above url and reach your site, then your main page MUST BE NAMED index.htm or index.html. Is this supposed to be the starting page for the site http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~memoryhill/tableofcontents.htm If so you will need to rename it to index.htm or index.html. Make sure you double check the links so they go to the correct page. Right now the Table of Contents link at the top goes to http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~memoryhill/1index.htm which does not appear to exist and quite a few of your links do not work. Apache/2.0.52 (CentOS) Server at freepages.history.rootsweb.com Port 80 When I try to search for it or enter from another site besides my upload site I am told that it doesn't exist. http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~memoryhill/ It is on this site but it isn't getting published. Thanks for your ideas I then get the message: This operation requires end-user permission for ftp://users.rootsweb.com/public.html which I think is normal and would suggest maybe this is a password issue?? :) Ruth ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandra Quinn" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, November 10, 2007 9:33 PM Subject: Re: [ROOTSWEB-HELP] ROOTSWEB-HELP Digest, Vol 2, Issue 130 > Also, looks like the * .* is missing between public and html. you need > that, rootsweb.com/public.html so maybe users is okay in the situation > if you have the period. users.rootsweb.com/public.html > > Sandra > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > >
About 70 to 79% percent the way through a file upload (of a 1 meg file), it seems the ftp server quits and stops responding Is it set to time out at 5 or 6 minutes? My DSL seems to be getting pathetic lately. Lee
Help please from a fellow user? something has screwed my settings..again... After right-clicking on the file to update, I insert ftp://users.rootsweb.com/public_html as the remote ftp location. The next box I usually leave blank ( I thought) Passive option on. clicking <ok> brings up the box & I use Fleming for name and then password ...no luck. Then clicking cancel I get /public_html folder doesn't exist. :) Many thanks Ruth Rathbone http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~fleming/

Also, looks like the * .* is missing between public and html. you need that, rootsweb.com/public.html so maybe users is okay in the situation if you have the period. users.rootsweb.com/public.html Sandra
Try dropping users. in front of rootsweb.com I helped another girl with the same problem, she dropped that and was able to upload. Sandra Quinn OHGenWeb SC
This is hard to explain. Frontpage has an area called Reports. One Report is a list of any files (images or htm pages) that cannot be reached from the site's home page. I thought the way I linked WOULD make sure the files / images would link from my site's index.htm to a sub-folder index, to a sub-sub-index, to the individual page... where the image rests, is linked, and identified with ALT tags. Here is the breakdown. Maybe someone can see where the gap is in my structure? Or tell my why Frontpage lists images that should already be accessible from my "homepage". If you have a solution, I'd appreciate hearing it. This sub-folder's index page ( http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/o_f2/mcdonald-pa_3/index.htm) - (two line URL) is listed on my main page of the site at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/index.htm The sub-folder index.htm page (again, at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/o_f2/mcdonald-pa_3/index.htm) links to separate pages as an mini-alphabet -- A-B.htm C-D.htm E-F.htm etc. Example: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/o_f2/mcdonald-pa_3/a_to_b_grooms.htmand all the rest of the alphabet are listed / linked. On each of the A-B.htm C-D.htm E-F.htm etc I list the page as a link and I list each marriage as a link under its page (so 2 links go to every marriage). So the links start from .... (or, read it backwards) http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/index.htm to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/o_f2/mcdonald-pa_3/index.htm to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/o_f2/mcdonald-pa_3/a_to_b_grooms.htm (or another alphabet page) to each separate marriage image on each page, such as http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/o_f2/mcdonald-pa_3/abel_to_adams-j.htm and also the http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/o_f2/mcdonald-pa_3/a_to_b_grooms.htm lists each marriage on that page, such as these pages as INDIVIDUAL LINKS (yes, they are linked properly) Elmer ABEL to Jennie Lescallette, 19 Aug 1925 Howard Lee ACKMAN to Ruth LaVern Jones, 3 Apr 1943 Henry ADAIR, Sr. to Mrs. Martin REED, Tues., Feb. no date, 1910 Arcel ADAMS to Naomi Baldwin, 30 Jan 1924 Frank Edmund ADAMS to Mildred Margaret Connor, 25 Nov 1926 George A. ADAMS to Alice Sloan McMillan, no date, in 9-5-1896 paper Jeffery ADAMS to Pauline Bills, 6 May 1944 ... So what have I done wrong? Why do many (but not all) these images show as NOT being linked to my HOME page ? Right now, I only have a several hundred showing in the "Files that cannot be reached starting from my home page." But, eventually, I'll have 3000+ images in these folders, so that number could grow rapidly. I want to correct the problem now. Ideas? Suggestions? Should I make & link 1 additional page to my "home page" and on the additional page, just list every image and link it back to the correct marriage pages? Judy P.S. I have other marriage images linked the same way and they are NOT showing up in this problem list. And, none of the "problems" show as unlinked files-- so the links are done correctly.

Off-topic question... A friend of mine has a dot com with a guestbook that logs IP addresses. He has quite a "collection" of offending posts (you know, posts pointing to very nasty web addresses and hundreds of ads). He wanted to know if there's a place to report the recorded IP addresses? Does anyone know? Is there a type of form /restricted form that would eliminate this bot-spamming that he could use on his site? Judy

Does anyone have a free graphic suitable for pages of divorce listings? I need something small -- in pink or some coordinated color. To match colors, an example page is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~florian/o_f2/mcdonald-pa_3/abel_to_adams-j.htm On the marriage pages I've used animated ringing bells, pink and white colors. The bell I'm using is toward the bottom of the example page I gave. just fyi - I see the files on an older Mac with Safari (browser), and they look good so assume you've got it fixed - Apparently you've saved them as htm files (rather than xls).
