    3. So you're saying that Rootsweb requires that a site have no links leading off the Rootsweb site? That's kind of surprising... 3. Hi, I tried a couple of times to upload one of my sites and it could not connect to the socket. I changed nothing, and waited until Monday. It took a long time for Cute FTP to get the connection (probably those redirects) but with patience, it did finally connect and upload just fine. 3. It also documents some work-arounds for this, fyi. IT says to do the updates for IE7, but also... WORKAROUND To work around this issue, follow these steps: 1. Start Internet Explorer. 2. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options. 3. Click the Advanced tab. 4. Under Browsing, Click to select the Enable FTP folder view (outside of Internet Explorer) check box, and then click OK. 5. In Windows Explorer, enter the URL of the FTP site, and then press ENTER. Gloria On Mar 25, 2008, at 7:11 AM, Ron Dailey wrote: > Pat, > > I found the solution in IE7. 2. Tim- You can write to: [email protected] to let RootsWeb know. The rest is as you say--up to you to change the logos, etc. Remember, also, that any contributors who shared data with you in the name of one project should be contacted to see if they are agreeable that their data remain with the new project. Anything you countributed to the site obviously can remain with your new affiliation. Joan PS: and congrats on the new addition to your family! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------ Account affiliation - if one wanted to change the affiliation from one genealogy group to another what is the process? I realize one would remove the logos, claim of affiliation from the site and add the new ones if applicable, but does one also need to notify Rootsweb of that change? 3. [email protected] (also known as BAD) You can offer adoption to BAD (and notify Staff).. or notify Staff you want released (without writing to the BAD List). If you know someone who wants your Board, you notify Staff... they put the "volunteer" link back up but give the other person a week to claim the board. If no claim, anyone can then volunteer if they want. 2. John- The OLD links will continue to work -- including those for USGW counties and states PROVIDED THAT the pages remain at RootsWeb. Since many are moving from RootsWeb to other servers the webmasters of the sites involved will need to provide updated links or the links from site to site will be broken. The old links/bookmarks/URLs for RootsWeb pages including Freepages, WWW pages, Homepages, etc. will permanently work--but will show in your browser window with rootsweb.ancestry.com as the URL.
