I have 2 sites, both using Free Find as search engine. One is <http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/>, Jefferson County New York and the other is an ALHN site for the Town of Alexandria in Jefferson County: <http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycalexa/> I received identical messages concerning both: "We were unable to read any pages when trying to index your site. Hi, With as many emails that are in the archives, I was hoping to get an answer tonight. Have any of you posted PDF files to your sites? That would be the best answer to the excell spread sheet.... Is there a list of does and don'ts for this section? Thank you NeldaRegards: Nelda Percival http://freepages.folklore.rootsweb.com/~bonsteinandgilpin/
Are PDF files allowed here? Thank you NeldaRegards: Nelda Percival http://freepages.folklore.rootsweb.com/~bonsteinandgilpin/

Generally, this went pretty smoothly, I thought. I did have to resubscribe to my RSS feed (RSS 2.0 XML, feeder: Firefox SAGE). Changes were not being detected until I deleted the SAGE link and resubscribed with the new URL. -- Regards, Rod Dav4is / P.O. This page was online > before I used Expression Web software. EW simply won't do that to a page, it looks like the page has been seperated into three parts then put back together again but the whole of the code from each page pasted in..... I often do this when I want to look at the code in isolation without distractions ... but you have to know where in the code to paste from without taking bits of code that does not need to be there.. apart from that I can see from some of the older coding it did not start in ew as it's throwing up errors because your using code that does not belong in a xhtml doctype, again ew can tell you how to fix that, I see your using CSS, most of those errors are fixable by putting the formatting into styles within the CSS. The footer looks like where you have made the most edits with ew as I see the embedded styles made automatically when you apply formatting selections (saves you from yourself) that needs a tidy up though. For a quick fix I'd remove all formatting then use F9 to tab through the errors to find and remove them though the errors are removed it still needs some sorting out...not before setting up ew though... I did this and here are the results below so you can compare where you need to remove coding if you want to go into it that. Then just apply your formatting with css again using ew and name the styles and move them to your sheet from the embedded one. You should have a language meta too I tweaked the head metas slightly also. (note copy and paste to notepad before pasting into a blank page in code view (which should not contain ANY code to remove the email formatting) If you have ew set up then it should be warning you of these problems this ebook will help you understand the settings needed for that. I would guess the bottom footer, and the entire top down to the image of the cemetery? You have three doctype statements and head sections which if you are writing your includes like the first one is what is causing your problems with the coding. I would also guess you did some copy and paste as some of this code is not EW generated. I use the design time includes offered by EW and even though I have to upload/publish all changed pages, it is much easier and creates much cleaner code. If you are going to use ssi's on the Rootsweb server, use a text file. pat
header2.htm (header2.txt) is links, text, GenWeb images. Body starts with Cemetery Title. Footer begins below image of a rose. I'm going to keep the text includes in mind. This page was online before I used Expression Web software. kk, Sorry, I mis-spoke. I've taken a really good look at the page http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mocharit/books/Chariton_Co_1896_Index.htm The HTML code is very bloated. I see it was created by MS Word which explains most of the bloat (MS Word generates horrible HTML). The problem with the pictures on this page is multi-fold: 1. The references to the actual picture files (Chariton_County_Missouri_1896_1Cover.JPG, Chariton_County_Missouri_1896_index_247.JPG, Chariton_County_Missouri_1896_index_248.JPG) are in link tags instead of image tag. If you click on what is supposed to be the cover picture you actually go to the cover picture. 2. The file names used on the page for ...247.JPG and ...248.JPG are missing the _index.. 3. The files specified in the image tags (Chariton_Co_1896_Index_files/image002.jpg, Chariton_Co_1896_Index_files/image004.jpg, Chariton_Co_1896_Index_files/image006.jpg) are not in the books folder. I don't have a clue how to fix this with MS Word.
