If I remember right... after you create the account, look for a tab or "manage" area to GET CODE. I think the code thingie was rather hidden/obscure. In your webpage (an _include is nice for on site search boxes), locate the spot you want the search box.... Stick the code there. To get a really good software program for this, such as would be used for a good text book, required a sizable investment. I didn't find any thing free or cheap that was satisfactory. Perhaps something else is now available. Hope this helps. Jeff Owens

For those do not have FrontPage or Expression Web or use an editor that has the facility of reports... use a find and replace prog there are plenty of free one's around. For those that use fp or ew just use your reports quick and easier than going from page to page....it will also show up incorrectly coded links... also an ideal time to make sure all your index (home pages) are coded as absolute links without the index.htm index.html default.htm or whatever you use...(better seo to use the same link everywhere and not to use the file name as sometime you might move hosts use asp or php or whatever) Seo wise it's a must that links be changed from the old to the new asap.. and that you look at your stats and inform anyone that links to you to change .. also a good time to make sure they are linking in a good way that will help you the most with a title attribute and they are linking with good keyworded text and not using an image.... hth Tina http://any-expression.com/

In my case, since I always use a text editor, I simply found it expedient to use absolute links in certain header portions included with SSI -- and sometimes just due to pure thoughtlessness. ;o) -R. I try to use relative links where possible in my pages, and they require no change. It's the absolute links that require updating to the new URL, and my compile process that I use will do that now that I have updated it -- as I recompile pages in the normal course of events. Only pages with updated /data/ are normally recompiled, you see. Adding the old URL to the search engine (as secondary entry point) insures that its spiders recognize both old and new URL forms as valid and belonging to my site: *Primary:* http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dav4is/ *Secondary:* http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dav4is/ -R. I will normally use an absolute url for the home page of my site. All images are inserted using relative urls. Links within the content area also use relative urls. If you are trying to test a site on your hard drive and use absolute urls, you will have a hard time checking the links to make sure they work. pat ---------- Pat Geary, Microsoft MVP - FrontPage We discuss FrontPage and Expression Web http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gearyfamily/frontpage/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gearyfamily/expression-web/ Genealogy Web Design Tips and Tutorials http://www.genealogy-web-creations.com/ http://www.genealogy-computer-tips.com/ - Blog

If each page links back to his site (the home page, for example) using an absolute rather than a relative URL. That is, freepages.rootsweb.com/~dav4is/index.html rather than /index.html that would look like a different site to the robot which thinks it is spidering freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dav4is so he'd have to search & replace that link on every page and reload the entire site. -- Bob Sullivan Schenectady Digital History Archive <http://www.schenectadyhistory.org/> Schenectady County (NY) Public Library
