Marcia, As the other Pat (Geary) said, the banners are the price for free web space. Not everyone comes in to your site through your home page. Having the banner on all pages indicates to visitors (no matter how they arrived) that your site is supported by RootsWeb/Ancestry/TGN. Pat

    3. The banners can NOT be removed. They are the price we pay for having our pages hosted for FREE by Rootsweb. They could be worse - they could look like the ones on the Yahoo Geocities pages. These at least are fairly unobtrusive. Now if only my pages still validated. :-( At 06:42 PM 5/23/2008, you wrote: >Rootsweb banner is on top of every one of our pages. Does it have to be? 3. The Rootsweb banner has appeared somewhere between Wednesday and this morning (Friday). The site was fine before that. I've gone into the CSS and changed the masthead from absolute to relative positioning but now the sub-menu items cannot be accessed and there is a huge gap between the page content. See: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyggbs/index.htm Its been several years since I made the page and I'm having a devil of a time figuring out how to solve this. I've tried changing the content of the page (from Welcome down to bottom of page) to relative positioning but the huge gap remains as well as the lack of access to the sub-menu items. The site is a real mess right now and I may have to put a message announcing the site is down until further notice, in case I have to build the pages all over again. It should contain the text "USGENWEB" (all caps and without the quotation marks) and nothing else. Pat

You are severely limiting yourself and besides which even if people saw your announcement to let through scripts for your announcments most of them would not turn scripts on if they usually surf with them off.... That sort of sounds a little silly wouldn't you agree? Your also limiting anyone disabled or blind that cannot use them... Look give your readers a break and just produce a simple text which will probably get you more readers through search engines as they can't see your javascript either.... think about having a ezine which you send out to members that are interested enough to sign up for ... yahoo groups do free ones and are very easy to use. That way you know your announcements are going to a targted audience too. If i have the wrong end of the stick sorry ... but scripts should only be used when 100% of your audience can actually use them. That applies 1000% to navigation if scripts are used for navigation there should always be text links on a page or they should degrade gracefully. ok I shall go back to my corner now.... Tina

Tim, If you have been the list administrator for 2 years, you can request your admin info from PasswordCentral, http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com If you have registered with My Account, and added existing services, you can also access your list tools from your My Account page. If you can not access from either entry point, perhaps you are not the primary Admin of that particular list. As Joan pointed out when responding to you on Listowners, ability to access only pending requests indicates you are an assistant, not the primary List Admin. When writing to HelpDesk be sure to include all relevant information, i.e. WHAT LIST are you asking about? If you are not listed as Admin in PasswordCentral, what makes you believe you are the primary admin for that particular list? Pat

    1. Re: [ROOTSWEB-HELP] Where to write for help?
    2. Tim- I'd advise giving the HelpDesk sufficient time to respond to your question. Staff may have been away at the NGS conference and they don't necessarily work on weekends (this is only Tues.). If more than 2 weeks go by and you don't get a response--contact them again and state that it is a second notice. The type of issue you are having can only be handled by Listmaster--so your post is probably flagged for Listmaster who will respond as soon as possible.
