Hi Linda I asked a similar question of a colleague recently and his reply might be useful: ============== I prefer TARGET="_new" which on appropriate pages (such as one of links to other sites) I specify in the <HEAD> section of the coding as <BASE TARGET="_new"> to save repeating it for every link. That way it cuts down the amount of keying you have to do and the size of the file (and therefore the download time). You can still override it for specific links by keying those in as TARGET="_self" which opens links in the same window as the one you're currently using. It doesn't have to be "_new", it can be any unique name you choose other than the special ones of _blank, _self, _parent, _top. The reason I say this is that TARGET="_blank" will open every link it refers to in a separate window, so you could end up with quite a few, whereas TARGET="_(your unique name, such as new)" will load the page you're linking to into a window of that name. So, if you use TARGET="_new" for all your external links, they'll all open up in the same second window called 'new'. ============== Mike Hall Powys FHS Webmaster Erwood Powys Wales Email: micronic@hallmark.kc3ltd.co.uk -----Original Message----- From: Linda Haas Davenport <lhaasdav@mindspring.com> To: RootsWeb-Help-L@rootsweb.com <RootsWeb-Help-L@rootsweb.com> Date: 07 November 2000 15:13 Subject: I hate it when I'm stupid >For the life of me I cannot remember the command to open a new window when a >hyperlink is clicked on. You don't need to pursue this anymore. I have moved the form off the server where it quit working. Evidently the ISP did something last week that broke the form processing. I still don't know what the problem is since I haven't heard back from my ISP's tech support yet, but I don't really care now. I have moved the form to Rootsweb where all the rest of my pages have been for the last three years except for this form. ======================================== Charles R. Charles, I tried to access your site and couldn't reach it. Your problem deals with formmail and how the referrers array is setup. Normally, users who have cgi-bin access will setup this script to accept all the form locations (query forms, guestbook forms, contact forms, etc.) that they are using. They can also set it up to allow forms that are not located on the same server as the script to use the program to send mail. Did you change the name of your query file? If you did, then try renaming it to it's previous name and see if that works. The only other way to correct this problem is 1) to identify who owns the formmail.pl script and 2) ask them to add your webserver url http://web.raex.com/~cweese/vinton/subquery.htm to the referrers array in the script. You can find this out by checking your form tag and see where it is calling the script from. The go to the url, minus anything after /cgi-bin/ and ask the admin to help you out. If by chance you are calling formmail from your own server, then email me directly and I will tell you how to edit the array so that it will accept your form. -- Best wishes, Carol Hepburn chepburn@uswest.net Phoenix, AZ USA
If I recall correctly the online service Carmen is looking for utilized a GIF89A conversion tool. (i.e. GIF87a images to GIF89A.) Unfortunately, the one I am thinking of could not be found which worked great back in the DOS and Windows 3.1 days. The only similar service I was able to locate this a.m. that will convert an image to a transparency or image map for you without downloading a program to do it is: http://www.abdn.ac.uk/tools/ibmpc/giftrans/ or the alternative form method at: http://www.mit.edu/tweb/map.html I understand it is quite slow and works best early in the morning on UK time. For more information you might want to review this page: http://members.aol.com/htmlguru/transparent_images.html Norma Jennings
Some graphic design software do that. I know PictureWorks and Corel Paint and Corel Photo do that. In Majordomo listserve you can block a source address from sending to the list. However, if the person has been subscribed to the list for a while they can compile their own mailing list and blast out whatever they wish to the members of a list by not using the mailing list address but the address of the individual subscribers. Cheers, Jason David Sisson wrote: > I need to remove a subscriber from my surname listserve, and I know how to > do that. RootsWeb's servers support the standard NCSA Imagemap protocols for server-side image-map directives, and every server in the world supports client-side image maps since it's all in the HTML. I don't believe that FormMail is installed on the RootsWeb servers, so RootsWeb isn't involved as far as I can tell. How about giving us some more information so we can help you debug this problem? I need to remove a subscriber from my surname listserve, and I know how to do that. But I also need to block his ability to send messages to the list, though I don't want to block other non-subscribers from sending messages to the list. Is there a way I can block one former subscriber? David Sisson
