This is my periodic search for new members of the list or those who missed my query for information on descendants of my g-g-g-grandfather: Hans Jakob (John J,) Straumann, b.1776 in CHE his son Johann Jakob (John J.), b.1800 " and his daughter Maria (Marie), b.1806 " They landed together in Baltimore MD during September of 1824, emigrating from Bretzwil,Baselland,Switzerland. ( I'm a descendant of Heinrich Straumann,b.1802, brother to above Johann Jakob. He remained in Bretzwil with his other siblings.) Has anybody come across this family ? I would greatly appreciate any response. Please see my data base on my Straumann Lineage: Stamm Jakob(1599) http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=fstrauma Thank you Fred H.Straumann Richmond Hill, Ontario Canada fstrauma@connection.com

Jo I didn't see an answer to your question from two days ago. Strike through is a simple HTML text attribute to code. <STRIKE>This text will be shown struck through</STRIKE> and this will not. Some, but not all, browsers will also recognize the HTML code <S> struck text </S> but STRIKE should be recognized by all of them and is preferred. Many thanks to those who wrote to me directly with tips on lining up columns of text, especially St. Cheryl and St. David, who cheerfully kept offering advice after my repeated e-mails!! I was trying to line up columns of text (specifically cemetery transcriptions) and did not want to use tables since those files get so huge and my cemetery lists are big. I need the columns lined up, but saving as .txt does not do that. In case anyone was curious, here's how it worked out: I use MS FrontPage to create my web. The original cemetery files were created in MS Access. In Access I chose "View, Datasheet view" then selected and COPIED the data I needed. Then I PASTED the information into a MS Excel spreadsheet. I eliminated columns I didn't need, sorted it the way I wanted, spaced my columns, etc. Then (in Excel) I did a "File, Save As" (and here's the key!) "formatted text, space delimited." This saves the file as a .prn (print) file. I next opened a new page in MS FrontPage and did "Insert, File." When you select the file saved with .prn extension, Front Page asks if you want to insert as text (yes) then asks next if you want formatted paragraphs (YES). Voila! Nice, orderly columns of data. Again, MANY thanks to those who offered their advice. Sandy Redmond Webmaster, Calhoun County MIGenWeb www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou
Well, it's a bit off topic but I'll keep it very short. I wrote a "how to book" for the construction industry and this first review was in a builder's magazine. The review was complementary of the book and me so I was extremely pleased. Good reviews help to sell books <g> And here you all thought I just made pretty Christmas web pages <LOL> Thanks for the interest. you have to set it in Courier font. I learned from others on this list few months ago and glad I do now. The tabs held well and require minor adjustments. Hmmm, well I used tables for the marriage lists that I'm working on, and an example is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~arwoodru/marriages/males/index-male-a.htm Some sizes are nice and small (20k), and some are bigger(200k) cause I haven't gotten around to reducting them yet. For the cemeteries, I used just typed lists, and think for most I used "<pre>" and didn't worry about things lining up, as in: http://www.rootsweb.com/~arwoodru/cemetery/fakescem.htm My 2 cents - hope that helps! Hi Sandy, I use pre-formatted text for cemetery lists. It spaces everything uniformly, so you will want to use a font like Courier so you can see how it will look. http://rootsweb.com/~nebuffal/cemetery/majors/ Mona Mona_Houser@juno.com List Mom - DEU-Nahausen-L@rootsweb.com Host - Buffalo Co., NEGenWeb - http://www.rootsweb.com/~nebuffal Our Family - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~monajo/ http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=monahouser On Mon, 11 Dec 2000 18:10:00 EST Slredmond@aol.com writes: > Hi all - > I've got several lengthy cemetery lists I want to post, and > formatting is an > issue.
