I've just gotten a note from one of my users that Hampshire County (WV) Queries was among the "select" boards. (g) Cheryl At 11:19 PM 02/27/2001 -0700, W. Your pages including the Genealogy Page(s) look fine to me in both browsers, Netscape 4.76 and IE 5.01. The font/text size may have gotten messed up/changed in your browser. Because your mail program is MS OutLook Express 5.**, I suspect you are using one of the IE browsers version 5 something. Here are a few suggestions that may help - then again may not! 1. On menu bar within your IE browser while online at your site select "View" > "Text size" > select a smaller font. 2. If you haven't cleaned out your browser cache/Temporary Internet files lately, you might try this also. While off line, Control Panel > Internet Options icon > on the General Tab click the "Delete files" button > select "OK". This will delete any old/bad pages of your site that may be coming up when you access the site. 3. Has the resolution of your monitor changed to a smaller size lately say from 1024 X 7** to 800 X 600, 800 X 600 to 640 X 480, or something? If it has this will cause font/text of some sites to appear larger. The resolution settings are located: Right mouse your desktop > "Properties" > at the bottom of the "Settings" tab --- Susan SGTAYLOR1@att.net My Genealogy Website - sgt http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/ ----------------------------------------------- USGW Mansfield, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/mansfield.html USGW New London, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/newlondon.html USGW Norwich, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/norwich.html USGW Windham, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/windham.html USGW Coordinator Plymouth Co., MA - http://www.rootsweb.com/~maplymou/ USGW Plymouth, MA - http://www.rootsweb.com/~macplymo/ *********************************************************
I checked the GC boards, To my absolute horror, the obits I posted since Jan 30 are GONE! I knew I posted several obits in last 2 weeks for sure. Joe O'Connor's lengthy obituary is GOOOOONNNNEEE! I will not able to recover the newspapers I get weekly from the garbage landfill to retrieve the missing obituaries. 150+ biographies gone from Germany Bios board. Hard work flushed down the drain. Gone from Luxembourg Bios, too. What's worse - all queries that were posted between Jan 30 and last Friday at least on Germany Queries - gone down the drain. I knew there were queries posted on Grant Co. Oregon last week and they are all gone. No notice mentioned on any of above boards. Notice found on BerlinStadt obit board mentioning "select boards" What about the above boards I mentioned with missing posts? W. David Samuelsen

With Ancestry.com the same thing happened with umlaut's. Searches came up with a certain name which contained umlauts (Nüchter). When I tried to search on the same name (Nuchter), I couldn't get the umlauts to be included or at least they didn't help the search and absolutely nothing came up--but I saw all the occurrences of the name with umlauts! I knew there had to be more. > > >This is scary. >This is the same thing that has been going on for months at >Ancestry.com and >they can't seem to fix it. > >----- Original Message ----- >From: "singhals" <singhals@erols.com> >To: <RootsWeb-Help-L@rootsweb.com> >Sent: Monday, February 26, 2001 8:59 AM >Subject: Oddity @ searches > > >> I know you've got bigger things on your mind right now, but when it cools >> off a bit and you're looking for something "easy" to help take >the edge of >> the adrenaline crash ... >> >> Searches >> under California >> Deaths >> >> enter surname HERB birth year 1916. >> >> You get Betty HERB, mother's maiden = Cresap. >> >> Now, go back, RESET, enter surname HERB, mother's maiden Cresap >-- you get >> 0 hits. Just visited that site, all perfectly aligned and sized. Check the setting of your computer monitor. This is very likely the problem. Something must have happened to your monitor since Friday. Everything looks normal to me, Omeda. Nice pages! Valorie Omeda Brewer wrote: > > My website is: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~omeda > When I go to it, the print is much larger and I had to scroll over to see > the surnames in the table on my Genealogy Page. > Omeda
Nancy, as long as the addresses are identical, your "double-subs" won't get extra copies of list email. If they differ in the slightest way, however, they WILL get multiple copies. The variant addresses should probably be added to your Accept file, so that they get one copy of each post or digest, but can post from any variant of their email addy. The only real difficulty arises when they unsub successfully, but since another instance of their email address remains, they will continue to receive list mail. If you want to unsub the extra instance now, be sure to warn them first, as they will get the "You have been unsubbed" letter, and will naturally wonder what's going on!? You didn't provide your site's address so we don't know what we are looking at, but I checked my sites at Rootsweb, they are ok just as before. This is scary. This is the same thing that has been going on for months at Ancestry.com and they can't seem to fix it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "singhals" <singhals@erols.com> To: <RootsWeb-Help-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 26, 2001 8:59 AM Subject: Oddity @ searches > I know you've got bigger things on your mind right now, but when it cools > off a bit and you're looking for something "easy" to help take the edge of > the adrenaline crash ... > > Searches > under California > Deaths > > enter surname HERB birth year 1916. > > You get Betty HERB, mother's maiden = Cresap. > > Now, go back, RESET, enter surname HERB, mother's maiden Cresap -- you get > 0 hits. Does anyone know the time table for Surname Helper Query Express being back online? My page for Query Express which always worked before now sez this: Not Found The requested URL /sites/il/macoup.html was not found on this server. All the other aspects of Rootsweb seem to be working now. I was able to up-load new pages a couple of hours ago. But my Query Express page still doesn't work. If it's still in the works, that's fine. But, just in case there a glitch in the system, I wanted to let you know. BTW- thanks to all who are involved in up-grading, maintaining, etc.!! I'm trying this address also: We can't reach users.rootsweb. We know rootsweb has been down, but since our site is now up, we thought the repair was over. We haven't seen any RootsWeb-Help-L mail either, so we are wondering what's going on. Nan Dixon -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/
I know you've got bigger things on your mind right now, but when it cools off a bit and you're looking for something "easy" to help take the edge of the adrenaline crash ... Searches under California Deaths enter surname HERB birth year 1916. You get Betty HERB, mother's maiden = Cresap. Now, go back, RESET, enter surname HERB, mother's maiden Cresap -- you get 0 hits. (I tried four or five times after Searches came back on-line last night). I have often gotten 0 hits when using surname + spousename or parentname. I have previously simply assumed the person I wanted wasn't in there. But this time, I KNOW she's there. Is there a glitch in the search routine maybe? I assume you are referring to the USGenWeb Account that the former cc gave to you. You should email accounts@rootsweb.com and request that they change the ownership entry to your name and reissue you a new password. You can of course still use the old password -- but it is important to make sure your name is added as current "owner" of that space. -- Best wishes, Carol Hepburn chepburn@uswest.net Phoenix, AZ USA
WE have been told on Listowners that Rootsweb isn't completely functional yet give it till tomorrow afternoon. Nelda _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
