Got the same message. Actually, those two directories didn't have spaces in the names, those were underscores and are often used instead of a space. The directory names beginning with an underscore are internal to FrontPage and it may not work well if you rename the folders. However, FrontPage was telling you *Exactly* what was wrong -- somehow you've created a folder named 'New Folder' inside the /images/ subdirectory -- see the message that FrontPage put out: Rename the source web's folder corresponding to "images/New Folder", > >I had several pages with spaces in their names. So I painstakingly went >through and deleted all of them, thinking maybe the message meant files as >well as folders ... Tried again and got the same message. Well, yes - although unix systems will allow files with spaces in the names, many browsers won't handle them correctly. And, I hope that you renamed the files within FrontPage and not just using the Windows Explorer. FrontPage may have a problem finding your files if you changed their names when he wasn't looking. Regards, Elsi

    3. Dear Dick - I think I know the answer to your dilemma. But first I need to know - when you are uploading in Front Page - do you see your computer's files (and/or file system) on one part of the screen and rootsweb's on the other? If so, when looking at rootsweb's, there should be a folder visible called public_html. BEFORE you upload your files, double click on this folder so that it's open. Then transfer all of your files and folders into that folder. That should work. As for the spaces in names, there aren't any online systems that I know of that will take files with spaces in the names. This is because not all computer operating systems are able to read them. To be able to reach the most users, the standard is to have files w/o spaces. I conquer this by running all my words together - like adamsco2.html - I know it's Adams County, Page 2. Make sense? I hope this helps! Anna

    3. Hope somebody out there can help me. About one year ago, I published by web site using Front Page. After several unsuccessful attempts which took up one week, I found that using the destination address: ftp://homepages.rootsweb.com worked. The only problem was that although Front page told me the upload was successful, when I tried to access it, I got the message that it could not be accessed. Then in response to my plea, I was told via e-mail by Betsy Mills that "You uploaded all your files outside the public_html directory. They are not visible on the internet unless they are INSIDE that directory, so I moved them for you to help get you started. This is a major problem that occurs when using FrontPage and I do not know how to tell you to avoid it." Then my site worked. But the whole process was so traumatic that I have not gotten up enough courage to try to update it till now, a year later. I reasoned that maybe I should have tried to send my site to ftp://homepages.rootsweb.com/public_html. After using my user ID and my Password as given me by RootsWeb, the upload started. Then it stopped with the following FrontPage message: "This FTP server doessn't support folder names that contain spaces. Rename the source web's folder corresponding to "images/New Folder", and any other folders that have spaces in their names, and try again." In the site I was trying to upload there were two folders with spaces: "_private" and "_themes". The images folder had no spaces: "C:\My Documents\My Webs\rakroots\images" that were not there when I first uploaded. So I deleted the two spaces in the two folder names and tried again. Got the same message. I had several pages with spaces in their names. So I painstakingly went through and deleted all of them, thinking maybe the message meant files as well as folders ... Tried again and got the same message. Then I went back to what had worked last time and tried to upload to ftp://homepages.rootsweb.com. Tried again and got the same message. So here I sit with all this great stuff I'd like to have on my site and can't get it there. Someone please help me! Surely this should not be so mysterious and painful. And by the way, if you tell me the only solution is to use some other program to upload with ... please tell me step by step how to do that. I am completely unfamiliar with other upload programs. Many thanks in advance, Dick Kraus

    3. Patrice - PageMill is not what you need for downloading your pages back to your computer. You can do one of two things. First option (and more time consuming) is to go to your own site, and save each page (one at a time) to a place of your choosing on your new computer. This means each photo, etc. Second option, open WS-FTP and login as you regularly do. Then select all the files and copy them back to your new computer (wherever you want them). Remember, when you "move" the files, you are COPYING them only, not deleting on one source and rewriting on the end location. Chris

    3. I have a 30 gig hd now so lots of space. On my C drive I make a directory called WEB, in that directory I make subdirectories of the websites I manage. Then simple go to your online site, I use NetScape, upper left hand corner FILE then SaveAs and it will ask where to and I tell it the subdirectory that I made for it. Don't forget to download your graphics also. I don't know about your webbuilding program, but Netscapes composer allows me to open my select page to work on, which I then do. I upload from my subdirectory using WS-ftp. -- L. L. Scott, IBSSG - NW Florida L. L. 3. I don't use PageMill and hoped someone else had jumped in to answer, but here's my attempt. Any website can be downloaded to your computer via FTP. You need to have a directory to hold it; just make one on your desktop if you don't know how PageMill holds your files. When you then open PageMill, you can import the files from your desktop. Most web authoring programs have an import function. If this doesn't answer your question, please let me know and I'll see if I can help. 3. Go to your website on line, Click "View" then "Source" This gives you the html version of the site. Either "Select All" or highlight the page. Copy and Paste into a new page in your HTML Editor. I didn't quite understand, but if these files are not in your Editor or computer now, just save this new page as you did the first ones. Also you might check to see if your HTML Editor will download a page from the site, by entering the URL. Sally

    2. Anna and list, How can I be SURE the files stay on the remote computer? Once I start the download where do I put it? Back in PageMill or in a different folder? If I use a separate folder, how do I get it back into PageMill? I hate to sound like a such a big chicken, but I am.
