Hi, Maggee- The Listowners or Newbie-Listowners list would really be the best place to get a good variety of answers to your questions. However, it is automatic that only list members can post to your list--all RootsWeb lists are closed lists. You can't restrict who *views* your list's archives. Your list's Reject and Accept lists are tools you'll only need to use on an 'as needed' basis. There isn't anything you need do with them when setting up your list although you might wish to place your own email address on the Accept List, and if you plan to make use of the GC-Gateway and have GenConnect board messages from a corresponding board or boards gatewayed onto your list then you'll want to be sure that the address: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com is found on your Accept List. If/when you run into troublemakers on your list that you wish to ban from either resubscribing or from posting directly (depending upon whether they are still subbed to your list or not) you'll need to use the Reject list. In either case, all that is involved in typing in the address you wish to include on the Reject list and click on the button to make the changes. You may also wish to add a second line explaining why the address was placed there. For instance if you wish to add an address to the reject list because the person flamed other list members you might show: joe@isp.com #incited the list members The first line will result in the address not being permitted to post a message directly to the list if it is still subbed to the list and will prevent it from resubbing if it isn't. The # line will show your comments as to the reason you placed the address on reject. The accept list is used for non-subscribers addresses when you wish to allow someone to post directly to your list without them having to subscribe. Someone on the Accept list won't receive list messages from that address but will be able to post directly from it. It is often used when you have a subscriber who has multiple addresses or variations in his email address but who only wants to receive list messages at one of those addresses. Joan
Listers--I have questions about setting parameters for subscribers to my list (Saint-Domingue). I realize that researchers can go the archives and read the messages that have been posted. And they can get someone's email and just write a message directly to them. I would like to know what steps I can take in my 'tools' page to make sure that only subscribers post to the list, at least. And--can I restrict who sees the archives? (kinda doubt this but thought I would throw it out...) In my tools pages, I have 'checked' the 'allow users to subscribe automatically' box. And I get notification when someone subscribes and unsubscribes. THAT is all that I understand how to do. On the Edits page--should I be doing something with a reject list or accept list? If so, can someone walk me through it? I appreciate your help! Maggee Smith

http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/1236/nomime.html There had been quite a lot of AOL users who are not able to upgrade to 6.0 because of html problem. The help on changing from html to plain text is at this site above. Sure could use the information from there to add to the Listowner's site for quick references. David
Omeda, the INETD.EXE file is one that the W32badtrans worm creates in your windows directory. To get further details on the files that may still be in your system, check out this URL: http://www.mcafee.com/anti-virus/viruses/badtrans/ Norton Virus Scan probably interrupted its activity but the command line is still in your registry. Hi all you wonderful people! Yes-s-s-s! It is done. It is up. It is complete and everything works. I finally narrowed down the problem with the images to the Resource folder. This is what I learned: If you have a page that is not linked to any other at your website AND you have images for that page, you MUST have a separate Resource folder in the file with the page. Whew! I want to thank each and every one of you for your help and support:-D ) ) ) ) ) ) <just can't get the grin off my face> Rel@ively, Patrice <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~greenhow/bgsnews/index.html>
