You can still go and download a GEDCOM as always. No information such as you list above is requested or required. Ancestry isn't charging for access, or requiring that you subscribe, in order to download user-contributed data in an Ancestry World Tree. Might you have been attempting to access an Online Family Tree? Joan

What I've found is that no attachment is ever opened by me for any reason, unless I am expecting it...even when my kin send pix of the kiddies...I email them back and verify they sent it. Twice had some come by way of my brother-in-law and he never knew it. I also always send a polite note to anyone who sends these, because chances are really high that they are the victims, not the perpetrators....unless you don't know who it is, and it doesn't look like it came from another listmember or poster. FWIW. Sue (who's cleaned out every virus known to man in the last six weeks <sigh>)

The file is a virus and did not come from your posting the message on the board but rather from the fact that the post was gatewayed to a corresponding mailing list and went out to the members of the list. Someone who subscribes to the list is unknowingly infected with the virus and when your email address ended up in the inbox of the infected person the virus sent out the attachment. The best thing to do is to notify the person the attachment came from to let them know they are infected and need to clean their computer. The virus is called Bad Trans. Hopefully you didn't open the attachment and you should delete it from your computer completely without opening it. Joan
I posted a query on the Woodruff Co, AR board. I received a email from the query with a attachment. I do not open attachments from people I do not know. But after looking over the email the file name reads: Me _nude.AVI.pif etc. I have saved the email and I have forwarded a reply telling the person that I was going to report it. Question: Can I report it and to whom do I report it. The email address is from msn.com. Thanks Lenda
Hi Lenda - I'm the coordinator of the Woodruff Co., AR, board. I haven't heard of this particular attachment before. What did this person's message say (not the attachment, the email message)? I would suggest that your response depends on the intent of the person and the email message may be a clue to that: 1) if they are unaware that they're transmitting this file, then they need to be aware of it, and if it is a virus, to get rid of it, or 2) if they're intentionally transmitting something offensive, then you can send the message to postmaster or abuse address at MSN.COM (ABUSE@MSN.COM) along with your complaint. You can also go to http://supportservices.msn.com/ and get other options there. I guess this is what I'd suggest. I also don't know what this pif file is, but there are some "pif" virus files. Perhaps somebody else on the list knows...? Thanks - hope this helps Gloria -------------------------------------------------------- At 12:43 AM 5/16/01 -0400, you wrote: >I posted a query on the Woodruff Co, AR board. HI! Thanks to all who answered my query earlier today... I now have the page loaded! HI! I have used Netscape composer for the first time as I like that fact I can input information and make a "chart" so everything comes out "nice and neat". My problem is "how" do I "publish" it to the web?? I have the page ready to go. I have clicked on "publish" and filled in all the blanks. Then when I am done and it appears that the info is being uploaded, I get the following error message: "method not allowed The requested method PUT is not allowed for the URL /nbcampob/bap1855-59.html. I normally use Front page Express for all my other pages and ws_ftp. I have tried to use the ws_ftp as well to load the page with no luck. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!! ??? Thanks! Hello Rootsweb-helpers. I'm not sure who this question should be addressed to. About the way that Rootsweb handles "moderating" and the "accept" and "reject" concepts - this structure would be of great help on a non-genealogy list that I'm a member of (but not owner). Is this a kind of software package that Rootsweb uses? Could I direct the list owner of this other list to someone at Rootsweb who could explain to them how to set up something like this? Thank you. Hello Listers. I am making a MAJOR email change. Is there a way that I might check subscriptions to mailing lists on Rootsweb? And is there any other way to simplify the process of backtracking where I may have my soon-to-be old email address listed? I kinda doubt this one but....:) Hopefully, Maggee Smith
Sylvia, Did you make any changes to the left or bottom border? Sometimes that will make Front Page reload everything. Sometimes, I think Front Page does it just because it wants to. A solution to the problem is to divide your website up into subwebs. It's not noticable to the viewer, the URL's stay the same and you can just upload the section where the changes were made. I have 10 or 11 in mine - one for the census, cemeteries, etc. It has made uploading a very large site a lot easier. I have been trying to upload my website to the rootsweb site I have had for over a year. I upload material daily and have not changed my process at all. I use Frontpage, so the process is somewhat invisible. I have marked off that I only want to upload pages that are new or have been changed. For some reason the server thinks that each page on the site (over 1000) has been changed because it states that an unknown person has changed the pages. The only person is me. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? It is taking about 8 hours to upload 3 pages of changes as the server is reloading the entire file. By the way the right box is ticked off on the upload page (only upload changes) I'm stumped.
