Thanks again to everyone who responed to my requests for help. The counter seems to be working fine now. It takes a little while to learn the ropes, but everything is going fine so far. sherrill
One more thing - I also require removable memory disks because I don't want to keep all in camera and have to hurry back home to unload every time. That's the kind of digital camera I want along with able to put on a stand and take photo with ease, possibly with a timer if there is one available. W. David Samuelsen
Did the prices drop that much on the digial cameras? Last time they were in range of $150 and upwards. Did they dro that much to neighborhood or $30 and upwards? I'm looking for one to take photos of cemetery gravemarkers. The kind that I can put on a stand and press without shaking my hands trying to take a photo. David
Everyone, I (sort of) discovered why it was happening. Large bodies of text (and, actually, just about anything else) is converted into tables by Front Page. Good old MicroSoft - I used to create my pages in just html, but decided to teach myself Front Page. Lucky for me I do know html since I was able to delete the offending code referring to tables - now the pages are correct. Thanks anyway - maybe this information will help someone else down the road Gail Valorie Zimmerman wrote: > Gail, I'm no expert, but it looks like you are using a frame as your > left border, rather than using a table. Some counters detect the page owner, and do not advance when you visit it yourself. =LPMeissner -----Original Message----- From: W. Thank you to everyone who responed to my request for help. The counter is installed and visible, but it doesn't increase everytime I go back to the page. In Netscape it's stuck on 3 and in IE it's on 13. What now? My website is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~mecsebag/Index.html sherrill

Gail, I'm no expert, but it looks like you are using a frame as your left border, rather than using a table. That would explain the extra ad. Also, your site wasn't accessable with the url you gave -- I found it at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~beeson/will1.html I think the friendly folks at the Freepages list will have a more specific answer for you. Greetings Group, When emails come to my personal email address instead of to the List, I send a message suggesting that the question be put on the mail list. I give them the correct address, and let them know that their message will be read by X number of list members. This is a very good way of teaching folks how to handle their questions. It still requires a message to be sent, but probably the last one to that particular person. aj -- Anna O. Jackson CC Giles County, TN http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngiles/ MailTo:TNGILES-L@rootsweb.com
I am at a loss to see why I am getting an additional banner on my pages. It doesn't appear on all of them, but a series of pages (one created from the other) is showing the extra (small) banner on the left side of the page. I believe this banner belongs on the bottom of the page. I don't mind the banners (I appreciate the free space), but this little banner stays right on top of the beginning of ancestors' wills! My cousins would like to be able to print the page showing the first few words of the will. The pages start at http://freepages.rootsweb.genealogy.com/~beeson/will1.html and go through to will 11. I don't see any extra body tags as was suggested in the FTP. Naturally, we are unable to edit the code and remove one of the scripts :] If it is something in my code, I can change it and reupload the wills. Thanks for any suggestions Gail

No doubt you have emptied your Netscape Cache and emptied the IE Temporary Internet Files ***off-line*** rather than while on-line. In case you emptied them while on-line then some stuff might stick around. When Netscape really gives me a problem over a page I actually go to: C:/Program Files/Netscape/Users/<open the user folder>/Cache and manually delete everything there rather then via the menu bar: Edit > Preferences > Advance > Cache > doing the "Clear Memory Cache" and "Clear Disk Cache" buttons. With IE, while off-line I go to: Control Panel > Internet Options icon > General Tab > in the Temporary Internet Files section select the "Delete" button. Just thought I'd throw in the off-line suggestion in case your hadn't tried it and was still having problems. --- Susan SGTAYLOR1@att.net My Genealogy Website - sgt http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/ ----------------------------------------------- USGW Mansfield, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/mansfield.html USGW New London, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/newlondon.html USGW Norwich, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/norwich.html USGW Windham, CT - http://home.att.net/~SGTAYLOR1/windham.html USGW Coordinator Plymouth Co., MA - http://www.rootsweb.com/~maplymou/ USGW Plymouth, MA - http://www.rootsweb.com/~macplymo/ *********************************************************

If it is sent to you *personally*, and not to the list, it's up to you. I usually forward to the list with a note at the top: Sent to my personal address. After doing that a few times, even the slowest of them notice that everybody else is posting to the list, directly. > I > just don't see that much on my list. If you ask for Help, you might get a response -- but a simple announcement isn't going to get much reaction. I find a project that the whole group can pitch in on, really gets some of those slow, quiet groups going a bit. Lisa, you probably would enjoy Listowners-L and/or Newbie-Listowner-L, where there are LOTS of other listowners. Valorie

I managed to solve the problem by completely shutting down my computer rather than "Restarting" it. -Richard -- Richard Harrison/Encinitas, San Diego, California USGenWeb Northwest/Plains County Coordinator Rep IAGenWeb Immediate Past State Coordinator Jones Co. Lisa-- There is a Listowners' list and there may also be a Newbie Listowners - not sure about that. You can browse the Listowners-L archives at Rootsweb and get some ideas too. I rarely get answers to my posts. Lots of subscribers just like to keep in touch although they are not active, or are working on other lines at the moment. I just keep posting information that will be helpful to present and future researchers, and use informative subjects -- surname, given name, date and location so people can browse the chronological archives. Other listowners post all their research activities. Some have rollcalls to get every one involved. You might think about creating a web-page for the surname on Freepages at Rootsweb, or some other place, that invites subscribers. In any case, good for you, and keep on the good work. Richard I have had the same problem, today it has been slower, after I tell it to refresh if I am patient, it comes in. Try shutting it off, not just rebooting. if I get angry enough I pull the plug. Let it do it's act. This is the nature of Windows unfortunately. I have had to reboot at least 6 times on occasion. If all else fails, then phone your ISP, it might be them.
