    2. E. Annette Rose
    3. If anyone figures this all out, please let me know. I have three boards but then again, I also have three "personal" sites on Ancestry.com, none of which I could access until I sent "for my password" only to find out that they can't send it to me??? I tried to "register" after it would not take my "normal" sign on.... so I just changed my "name" and requested the three boards that I host...hope that works?? If I should stop my paid access, is thing gonna erase my free access?? Talk about being confused. ear

    2. Warren T. Bagley
    3. The separate 7 boards have been the joke in my opinion. They have been abused since the first entry several years ago. It's been an admin nightmare all along. If you would get to the new system to send a query, will, obit or whatever, you will see the options for some "great stuff". Sure I've got a lot of work to do to change my county web pages and work with the users, but I'm confiident this is going to be a far better method. Look at what you can do with it! This is a dramatic change and it's like a new world to me like I'm sure it is to you, but it's going to work. I've already got a hundred passwords, what's one more? I do fill a little sorry for the people that had the other 6 boards. Warren

    2. Ben Mertens
    3. I have at least 4user names. I want only one to get into every service that you have. I called and talked to a young lady. She said that she would do what I've requested. She said she would refund a duplicate payment and also take more money from my account. Today, I don't see one username but 4 and I don't see a new one. Please, you have my money, now let me see your services! Give me ONE Name, One Username, One set of code number/letters and let me work without all this fuss. Ben Mertens mertensb@bright.net

    1. [RW-Help] Volunteerism contributions
    2. Norma F. Jennings
    3. I guess we have a whole different idea of volunteerism down here in Louisa County. Data itself is not copyrightable and when I and my co-members type up databases, etc. for Rootsweb, it is with the idea that OTHER people can now have access to the same information as we do. Now, when I donate to the Red Cross, the Heart Association, and other charities, I don't expect to retain complete ownership of my contribution. I have the satisfaction of knowing that a few pennies will help someone else even though after working in a hospital, I know that most of that contribution will go for researchers and secretaries salaries and will never be seen by the patient. There are certain administrative costs and maintenance fees that are necessary for the patient to finally obtain any benefit. I can't boss any of these projects but hope I have helped in some way. I absolutely do not understand the proprietary attitude and possessiveness of people working as so called volunteers. I am grateful for all the free web space I have been allocated in order to help others. No matter what it is, there are some people that will always fight change. I tell my husband, when he comes home and gripes what the younger generation is doing downtown for improvements he thinks are unnecessary, to not voice his negativism too loudly as that is a sure sign of being dubbed "old" when you resist all new ideas. Most opposition is from ignorance and often your worst fears are never realized. Think about it. Are you a "volunteer with strings" or a "contributor to mankind"? Control is not an issue with me as I know what my real copyright issues are and I don't expect to copyright every word I write as much of it will eventually be deleted or forgotten anyway. Those of you padding this list with your complaints are part of the problem. Try a little patience and the bugs in the new system will be worked out. Anyone experienced with new database systems know from the beginning that there will be necessary enhancements once the system is up and running to identify the problem areas. Everyone impatiently hitting the link repeatedly so they can join the "rabble rousing" is causing the rest of us to wait longer to access the site to claim our sites. And it is irritating the heck out of me when you keep asking the obvious questions that have already been answered.. I have been more than amply paid for anything that I have contributed by the appreciation shown from others and the tons of info I have found in return. I have used Ancestry in the past to locate relatives that otherwise defied my efforts. For this, I feel my money was well spent to access their site for a few months. And they still have the best resource on the market with their "Source" book published a few years back. These are good people but they do need to charge for a few things to stay on the air. We all will eventually return to the dust anyway, we can't take it with us. I would rather see it available for future generations than develop paranoia for fear someone else will use my work. With Message Type: The one major feature that is MISSING from here (the Advanced Search) is GEOGRAPHIC **and** SPECIFIC BOARD. Why? I know there are 800+ obituaries posted on Baker County, Oregon Obituary board and just about all had been hijacked by a Cindy Dahl as her own (all my work). Using Author method - forget it because they're listed as Cindy Dahl instead of "Transcriber" (she now has 7,400 posts to her credit). W. David Samuelsen

    3. Andrew, This time your suggestions haven't worked. Every possible username I want to use (and I don't want to use any of those suggested) is returned as already in use - pick another. I've found NO Forgot your password screen on the Board Admin pages. Again I've spent 5 minutes trying everything possible with just the same runaround. I am not computer illiterate. I can read instructions. What I am saying is that these username/password screens are not my problem. If this system CAN'T recognize that I am the person who OWNS a particular username, same email, same name, then there is a problem from their end, not mine. If I enter a username and password, it tells me this username is already in use, or the password is incorrect. At this point, if the password is incorrect, I would think this would be the time for the Forgot your password option to pop up. It doesn't. All roads lead to setting up a completely new username and password, which is what I've complained about in my previous post. I end up with yet ANOTHER username attached to me and a guarantee of more problems down the road. Nel

    3. I've now gotten into the Board Admin signup page - thank you, Andrew! The problem still exists - username. It keeps telling me my username already exists. Of COURSE it does! One of my biggest problems with myfamily/ancestry.com is that when I try to access one of their pages, it takes me 10 mins trying to find the correct username/password. And by the time I stumble onto the right combination, I no longer know how I did it. I don't understand WHY, when I supply everything but my SS#, that the system can't recognize that the person entering all this info IS the person who owns that "existing" username and allow me to continue. It is attempting to force me to select another username which is the core of the problem. Too many usernames scattered all over these sites. The physical location of the servers has nothing to do with whether or not the messages are available to PML. There will be a temporary disruption of board messages being picked up by PML until the new system can be coordinated with PML. We do plan to restore the board messages to PML as soon as possible.
