Hi D. I know I did not send the complete headers. I sent these earlier to Pat (ref. #107139). I use Netscape Communicator as email program and I know how to view the complete headers. Meanwhile I understood the problem has something to do with the ISP hetnet.nl I sent a separate and numbered (!) message to every list member with hetnet.nl as ISP, in total 22 messages. Short time later I recieved one return message 'nondeliverable mail' concerning a totaly other email address (at hetnet.nl) as "wjkunnen@hetnet.nl". So, indeed an alternate address. I removed this alternate addres from my members list. I hope the problem is solved now. Thanks for the good advise! That was true in the past, Gloria, and those bounces could be very confusing. But we will no longer get any board bounces at all. So our listowner job just got a little easier. :) Valorie Gloria Bronte Lane wrote: > > I get some bounces from folks who are not on my list. Like I said, the problem exists since May 29th. Below some X-diagnostic lines for your interest (I kept all the return messages). Now that GenConnect Boards are history, will there be new Message Boards Graphics to replace the GenConnect Graphics that were used as links. I have yet to find a Graphic for the new Message Board site: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=main&r=rw that can be used to replace the old GenConnect Graphic. Halsey
I get some bounces from folks who are not on my list. But I also administer the boards for my county, and have it set up so that the board messages (query, etc) also go to the list. I discovered that some bounces were related to replies to board messages. Brenda, there is no possible way for a Windows virus to infect the Unix servers that Rootsweb uses for lists. And since attachments are not allowed, they cannot be passed THROUGH the servers, either. Perhaps some of your list MEMBERS are infected. If they have the Bad-Trans or Magister virus/worm, the infected computers will send out replies to list posts that will LOOK like list posts -- but are not. For this reason, once you find out that someone is infected, you need to unsub them, for the protection of the rest of your list. Once they get their computer(s) clean, they can rejoin. For more information, see http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/announce.html#virus Valorie PS: Aren't you glad you run a list on Rootsweb, where no attachments are passed, and no HTML? :) KINGSLEY@aol.com wrote: > > Hi... Hello Everyone, Since May 29 I received as listowner many messages beginning with > Nondeliverable mail > ... > ------Transcript of session follows ------- > wjkunnen@hetnet.nl > The intended recipient's mailbox is full. > ... followed by several lines with other notitions plus a quote of the original message to my list. The address 'wjkunnen@hetnet.nl' is not one of my list members (-L neither -D). Every message to my list NL-NOORD-HOLLAND-L gives such return message. Does anyone know how to stop this flood of messages? Don Arnoldus Listowner NL-NOORD-HOLLAND-L
Don, without the crucial "X-diagnostic" lines, it really is impossible to say. Have you searched for "wjkunnen" and found no matches? Was one of those bounce messages the one where Smartlist removed the address for you? This is the sort of issue to take to Listowners-L or Newbie-Listowner-L, where the experts reside. Looking at YOUR headers, I see that you use Netscape -- it is simple as pie to display full headers in NS. Either click View > Headers > All and forward, or just click Control U and copy/paste the full headers into a new message. Look through those bounces first, though, and see if you can't find one that says "X-diagnostic: Removed wjkunnen@hetnet.nl" If that has happened, you are in the "wait it out" stage. Hello List, While trying to update files yesterday and today, I cannot upload the updated pages to http://www.rootsweb.com/~mahampsh/ Using CuteFTP - here is what I entered, Server: users.rootsweb.com username: mahampsh PW (CaSe sEnSiTiVe): xxxxxxxx PSWD confirmed 7/15/01 from RW accounts & password central I get connected just fine, and when I try to upload the HTML file, it keeps giving me message... permission denied So, the CuteFTP help file gives me... "Files won't upload or you get apermission denied response from the server. Your permissions may need to be reset. Call your web hosting server administrator. The file may no longer exist. Look for the file on the server side of CuteFTP after you connect to the site." Help! Any ideas? Sue sudown@cwnet.com

I bookmarked http://homepages.rootsweb.com/fileman/file_manager.cgi where I uploaded the homepage. When the above is opened, my files are there without a login box. Is this only showing on my computer? If I click the 'Log Out' then the password has to be reentered each time. My url: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~barney Have no problems accessing the webpage. Sent url to websites@rootsweb for addition to the Guest Pages Index. What is the procedure for Surname Websites listings? Cannot find the site listed.

I'm wondering if > anybody that goes to Homepages File Manager is getting my website > files. Bill: 1) The RootsWeb File Manager automatically places you into the public_html directory. Since this is the only directory you are allowed to upload files into, there's no need to show it to you. 2) There's absolutely no way to get into any account via the File Manager without entering a userid and password in the 'login' screen. 3) If you've logged in previously, your browser retains its previous login until the browser is shut down. That means *ALL* instances of the browser have been shut down. 4) If you checked the 'remember my password' box when you logged in, the userid & password are retained in your browser until you explicitly click on the 'Log Out' option at the top of the page. If these don't address your problem, how about posting a few more details -- what's the account/URL on the homepages server, what URL for the File Manager are you using, exact sequence of input and responses. There's lots of talented folks on the list who can help you sort stuff out.
I uploaded my homepage in Homepages File Manager instead of FTP. I do not see a subdirectory "public_html". When I go to Homepages File Manager, my files come up without user ID or password. The website has not been indexed and is not being found by search engines. Should I upload via FTP instead of File Manager. I'm wondering if anybody that goes to Homepages File Manager is getting my website files. Help.
Hello Everyone, I've finally moved my site to Rootsweb after spending the last five 1/2 years on GeoCities (Yahoo! made a mess of things). Anyway, I've been using FrontPage to create my web pages for some time now and thought I'd convert my old hand-created html over to FrontPage. So far, everything has worked just fine (I've disabled FrontPage extensions for Rootsweb) but I can't get my Rootsweb counter to work. (I'm not using the FrontPage one.) I've followed all of the instructions I can find concerning the Rootsweb counter and FrontPage but I still can't get the counter to "count." My site is located at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lamarca/ Thanks for your help! Jeff
Never mind! Apparently I wasn't holding my head at just the right angle when I tried before! I was somehow able to get through and able to register with a new ID, and got to the board admin page. Sandy -- Sandy Redmond Webmaster, Calhoun County MIGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou
OK - I tried to register under the new system to claim my boards, but somehow got goofed up. I tried to log in, and apparently I needed to "register" first. Now it's telling me the name I wanted is already being used - right, I tried to register! Tonight I tried to register under a completely new ID, and got this message: This message has been moved or deleted. As we combine our former message board systems (FamilyHistory.com and GenConnect), you may experience this message as groups of messages are migrated or combined. Please check back in 6-8 hours. I sent a message Thurs to support@myfamilyinc.com and have not heard back. Any suggestions? -- Sandy Redmond Webmaster, Calhoun County MIGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou
