    1. [ROOTSWEB-HELP] The "Forbidden Empty"? ;-)
    2. Sandy
    3. Need a little help here. Suddenly find that all files & folders on my site have run off. (on holiday?) I can log in via FTP and navigate to the public_html folder (which is quite empty) - but when I upload, I'm denied "permission"?I set up this account about a million years ago, back at the beginning of time, and I've never encountered anything quite like this. Also a bit strange that even surfing to the site produces a "forbidden" error. Not all together sure what's "forbidden" since it seems to have gone empty. ;-) No files. No folders. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncvance/ Any ideas? Need to upload. Thanks, Sandy

I can send you a screen shot if it will help but i use as the remote directory ftp://users.rootsweb.com so I will assume that where I have users, you should use homepages my remote starting directory is public_html for the DAR site When you say it doesn't work, what is the problem? If you are using a Firewall, did you give EW permission to access the web? 1. [ROOTSWEB-HELP] MS Expression Web, connection question
    2. Crandall Family
    3. I have just upgraded from an old version of frontpage to the latest version of MS Expression Web Everything is working well, except I am having problems with the setting that I need to upload pages to rootsweb. The information that Expression seems to need, does not correspond with what I needed for frontpage 98 For an FTP transfer from Expression I need a "Remote Web site location" that they have starting with ftp:// They also ask for "FTP directory" I used to use a hostname/address & port of homepages.rootsweb.com on part 21 and a remote starting directory public_html but when I tried these on the new Expression pages, it didn't work. Any suggestions? Many thanks Mary

    1. [ROOTSWEB-HELP] IE7 & FTP
    2. Elizabeth Brown
    3. Thanks to all who've responded to my question regarding IE7 and the FTP programs. Through the help of fellow listers, I finally was able to access my public file and I can add pages. My new problem is that I can't remove out-dated pages. I also discovered I can only access my site through Mozilla, if I use IE7 I go to some weird site that I've never seen and my files aren't there. What a pain!!!!!!!! 3. I have been using IE7 since it was in Beta. I have had very few problems. I tried using the FTP that is built into the browser to access my sites and could not. I wrote to Rootsweb and they told me that they were making changes and that it was no longer possible to FTP via the browser. I had absolutely no problem using Rootsweb's file manager, WS-FTP Pro or Core FTP Lite. 2. Sheila Hanna
    3. I had nothing but problems with IE7 and could not find any way to FTP into RootsWeb. After days of researching the problem and reading all the related postings I could find, trying all of the suggestions, and continuing to fail, I finally gave up. You can easily uninstall IE7 and return to IE6 without losing any of your favorites, etc. I did it and have suffered no ill effects at all. Here are the instructions that Microsoft provides for the process: To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 to return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel." Click "Add or Remove Programs." Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box. Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click "Change/Remove." (If you are running Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview — March 20 or later, it is not necessary to check "Show Updates.") Go here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx) and select the appropriate version of Internet Explorer 7 for your operating system. If you prefer, you can go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/default.mspx and select "Q. How do I install/uninstall Internet Explorer 7?" which will take you to the same instructions. Good luck! Sheila

    3. This is the Rootsweb-Help list. It is for persons who have websites located on the Rootsweb server. Here we give peer to peer support to people, specifically for making webpages on Rootsweb. 1. Re: [ROOTSWEB-HELP] Addresses ?
    2. Judy Florian
    3. You need to know the society's account name and password. The address is http://www.rootsweb.com/~YOURACCOUNTNAME/ The address should be in ALL small letter (no caps). Do you have the File Manager address? I don't have it handy right now. When you go to the File Manager (FileMan) URL, you put your account and password in for access. If you are using Frontpage or another ftp, there is a specific ftp address. Do you need that too? If you tell the list what you do have (do NOT put the password on this list), and what you need specifically, someone should be able to help you.
