    3. Ron, It's a great feature and hopefully you will someday be able to use it. It really allows a lot of diversity in collage work when you use layers. I use it in my business also. 3. Hi Karen, You might want to come over to the Freepages Help list. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~grandmananlines/Hawaiiphotos.htm is a page not found. at your index page, though, I get info on Ipswitch.com -- is that yours? (I'm confused). Usually the most frequent problems with links are (especially if you code by hand): -- not having the URL match the exact file in CaSe --forgetting to change the directory. To be honest, with that Ipswitch.com showing up on your site, I'm not sure what to say. I checked my freepages site and the freepages area is online, so that's not the problem. Come on over to the Freepages Help List so Pat G. or Pat A. can help you. 3. Marcia, I haven't figured out a way to change the opacity of a layer in Paintshop Pro. I like the effect you have on your web site. I understand that Paintship Pro is now owned by Adobe. I know that the price has gone up dramatically. I am using the last version that was created by JASC. My budget won't allow me to obtain Adobe Photoshop. Ron

    3. Ron, I enjoyed seeing the photo collage also. I do collages like this on a regular basisfor our county wesite that I maintain and on a professional basis for people. I use Adobe photoshop. Our photos page has a collage on it that I thouht you might enjoy. I change the opacity to create the photos as faded..those who have passed. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcchgs/OldPhotos.html Marcia >Today's Topics: > > 1. photos on web page (Melanie Farmer) > 2. On servers that implement SSI (server-side includes), it's not clear what date is the actual "last" modification. Is it the date of the main page? The most recent date of the included files? Apache has elected to avoid sending questionable data by simply not transmitting the last-modified date when SSI is enabled. I think you *might* be able to get your script to work by including the following in the HEAD section of your document: <meta http-equiv="last-modified" content="<!--#flastmod file="${DOCUMENT_NAME}" -->"> But if you're going to do that, just use the <!--#echo SSI command to put the date where you want it in your output page. You can use the <!--#config SSI command to set up the exact format you want the date to have. See my SSI tutorials at http://freepages.computers.rootsweb.com/~elsi/SSI.html Regards, Elsi

    3. i have purchased software from known venders that use spyware, such as Broderbund. It's not always of unknown origin, like Avenue A. Companies (such as this ad agency) may regularly lace their software with spybots. If you're using software that's initiated the spyware, and it's a problem then another option is to contact the vender of the software. It's never, ever, ever a good idea to accept a cookie from spyware--- or any site unknown to you. Spyware OFTEN writes registry values to your PC's registry -- and then is tough to remove. Most users end up rewriting their entire harddrive! Cost: $100.00 to $200.00 unless you know how to do it. Plus, HOURS of time lost. So NEVER willingly accept a cookie from these jerks (sorry, but that's the way I see those ad companies). I also think it should be a Federal crime for a company to change a PC Registry without permission of the user. Judy

    3. I also just use tables, with or without borders, for organization. Use a simple Alphabet letter listing, or thumbnails, on an index page for navigation. Make pages (or at least the Index) open in a New Window rather than Parent, so users can keep the index open while viewing pictures. I always get this name wrong, but Google the word InfraView, or InfraView+graphics program. It's a free, simple graphics program for resizing and thumbnails. 3. Hi Shari at Bixby, I went to Yahoo and did a search for Avenue A, Inc. Sounds like Avenue A spyware is probably provided by some of your legitimate software, I'd guess? There were products also to remove the spyware. So sounds like it's on your machine, not the web site, although I don't know what process you use to maintain your web info. I am wondering how it got out there. To learn more, I clicked on the Wikipedia link that was on the screen. Wikipedia says, in part, ----------------------------------- "Microsoft announced on May 18, 2007 it will acquire Avenue A | Razorfish as part of a $6.0 billion cash purchase of parent company aQuantive.[2] The deal is expected to be completed in calendar 2007. Spyware Controversy As part of their digital advertising service, Atlas, a sister company of Avenue A | Razorfish, writes cookies to users' machines that are used to track their non-personally identifiable data and behavior, to allow for the delivery of more targeted advertising. These cookies are or have been listed by several spyware removal programs including Spybot,[3] the Computer Associates Spyware Information Center[4] and the Scan Spyware online spyware removal tool.[5] The Avenue A | Razorfish privacy notice indicates that the company "may collect information about user interaction with client Web sites and provide that information and our analysis to the client" and the type of information that is collected is not specified.[6]. Avenue A | Razorfish directs users that are concerned about how Avenue A clients might use information they collect to the privacy policies of their clients' websites.[7]" ------------------------------------- I'd probably consider a number of options - go out to McAfee or Nortan and read up on it; possibly go ahead and accept the cookie, temporarily; and/or look into removing it with Spybot . I went to the Avenue A / Razorfish web site and it was meaningless, not forthcoming about spyware or much of anything that I could see, just ad agency stuff. Gloria. 3. Does anyone have an easy to update suggestion for organizing and posting a group of photos on a website? Like most historical societies, our money needs to stretch in many directions so am looking for something very reasonable in price or something I can write, myself. It doesn't need to be 'cute' just neat, easily navigated and quickly updated. Would like to see examples on some websites. Shari P.S. About Hacker: Using IE browser, when I go to the 'View' page of our guestbook, I get a notice that Avenue A, Inc. (a cookie) needs to download to my hard drive. I block it but have noticed that, now, 'back' button on that page no longer works. Can't tell how long this has happened. IE is not my preferred browser, however, I often check to see how things appear on IE because many of our site users do prefer it. I have no problem with other browsers.

    3. Shari, there are free programs available that can help: Picassa on Google Gadgets is my favorite. Go to http://www.google.com/ig/directory?synd=open and download Picassa. When I put up photos on my web site http://www.whitsett-wall.com I perfer simply using HTML to create a table with as many rows and columns as practical (you have to balance download time for the viewer against the number of photos). I use a small picture, usually around 200x150 up to 300x 300 for "a thumbnail" and put a link on the image to take the view to a larger photo. Check out my photo albums on my web site. Hope this helps. Ron Wall
