Karen, the _vti folders and files are used by FP to keep track of your website and changes made. Those files are what allow you change a file name from within the program and have the links to the file adjusted or for you to move files to another folder and have those links adjusted. Because Rootsweb does not habe FrontPage Server extensions installed on their servers, it is not necessary to upload those particular files. BUT do not delete them from your hard drive. Just delete the incorrect index file and upload the current one and everything should be OK. pat ---------- Pat Geary, Microsoft MVP - FrontPage We discuss FrontPage and Expression Web http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gearyfamily/frontpage/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gearyfamily/expression-web/ Genealogy Web Design Tips and Tutorials http://www.genealogy-web-creations.com/ http://www.blog.family-genealogy-online.com/
Pat the index file is index.htm and not .html does this make any difference?
Pat when I checked the hard drive index.htm did include the _vti_cnf_.folder.This was code depicting contents of the main or index page I have online.. So is there any chance that I can safely remove this file from rootsweb and go back to original files without having something happen to the pages.. I really appreciate all the help you experienced website owners deliver..

I have Picassa from Google. It does not contain spyware; however, it does ask if you would like your browsing habits reported to Google. If you say no it causes no problems. I haven't tried the imaging editing features since I use PaintShop Pro, but otherwise it is a neat way to organize your photos and view slide shows. I love it for that. Search for Google Gadgets (Using Google, of course). Ron Wall
Alice, I use Corel PSP XI (abt. $100) as well as older JASC PSP 9 (like this one best), however, Google's Picasa 2.7 has a crop and other adjustment tools that appear to work really well. The application is located at the Google site. It's free so may contain spyware. You can setup your scanner to open the image into Picasa or open it from the Picasa application. Picasa constantly updates your image files. I like it best when it is not doing that in the background while I'm working. I just cleared it from my start-up applications and manually run it when I'm not using a lot of RAM. If you still have an install disk for your old familiar image editing software, but it doesn't work with XP, try downloading new drivers from the application company website or use their help page to solve your problem. I've seen GIMP, which is free and it's almost as powerful as Elements. Having spent only a few minutes with this powerful software (I use Elements) I'm impressed with its features including batch processing. Hi Alice, Adobe Photoshop Elements will certainly do what you describe, but you don't need to spend the money. Picasa <picasa.google.com> and Irfanview <irfanview.tuwien.ac.at> are both free, popular and basic organizer/editor programs. I don't see where Picasa will change the pixel dimensions of your images but Irfanview will. Both have capable image enhancement features you might want. And both are simple to use but take your time learning to do what you want, with these or any other editor. More to the point, can anyone on this list suggest a good mailing list or web site for advice for choosing an image editor? Hope this helps... Peter, Hope you don't mind me writing direct off the USGW Discuss list...I recently upgraded to XP and now none of my graphics editing programs work.
