I had no trouble this afternoon & now again........ connect, but can't log-in Reply I rec'd earlier from the Help Desk to my message early this morning: "There was an issue with "admin" which affected DNS and possibly some other things. The programmer gave the server a stern talking to [grin] and it should be working for you now." Could they still be having unresolved problems? Linda B. ----- Original Message ----- From: "W. I think the notice just went up. There were 2 messages earlier, one I can't recall, which is not there now, & the message abt. Surname Helper. Just before I sent my message to this list, all that was up was abt. Surname Helper. Now, it's showing problems with FTP. Guess I shouldn't have gotten up so early, I wouldn't have wasted soo much time searching to see if the problem was on my end :-) Linda B. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Slaughter" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 01, 2007 11:22 AM Subject: Re: [ROOTSWEB-HELP] FTP upload off line - TWO DAYS estimate > Interesting. I just joined this list. I've spent at least 4 hours this morning googling to see what I'm doing wrong or what I might inadvertently changed with Ipswitch. In a way, it's a relief to see that I am not the only one having problems logging into rootsweb this morning. Everything was fine last night. I am/have been able to get into my freepages account, but cannot log into my GenWeb pages to upload. Recent log shows: Finding Host users.rootsweb.com ... I'm having a problem uploading our historical society website using WS_FTP Pro. I get the comment, "no socket." I looked in the help section of WS but found nothing about 'no socket.' I have no problem updating sites not located at RootsWeb and my freepages site at RootsWeb. There is a message on the Rootsweb site that there are problems and they are working on it. Probably will be down about 2 days. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Bixby Historical Society Sent: Sunday, July 01, 2007 8:09 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [ROOTSWEB-HELP] No Socket I'm having a problem uploading our historical society website using WS_FTP Pro. Interesting. That notice wasn't there when I posted earlier. Strange that the file manager still works. Oh, well. I guess it will all wait until next week. Are logins disabled via WS-FTP? Has Rootsweb changed something again? I can log into my personal account. It is not a freepages account. Listers hi You saw the dilema I was in yesterday re:the _vti_cnf_.folder appearing on my main page to site. I have had to re-create the main page and have loaded it to site. However this does not overwrite the existing codes .. Can I go in through File Manager and delete the text only?Would I then be able to reload and see the main page?

If you DO have the _vti_cnf folder ON your COMPUTER, you should simply be able to delete the entire folder that is ON the website. Yes, the easiest way to do it is using FileManager. Again, make SURE the same folder / contents is ON your PC first. Just in case I'm wrong, wait till at least one other regular poster here confirms what I've suggested. I forget what ftp you are using--- Frontpage? or a manual uploading program? With Frontpage, it will automatically load everything you need. By the way, don't feel silly about this mistake. I had to delete what I uploaded twice when I first started.
