    3. It's not that NAME is INDI in RootsMagic. Both are valid tags in GEDCOM. INDI is the base tag for every new person and carries the RIN: 0 @I7@ INDI - this starts the block of data about a person with RIN 17. NAME is subsidiary to INDI; it's a property of the person, so it's on a lower level: 1 NAME William Henry /Cotterill/ - level 1 is below level 0; every GEDCOM statement from the above level 0 down to the next level 0 pertain to the entity defined by the 1st 0. 2 SOUR @S11@ - level 2 pertains to the last level 1 statement above it. So this citation is against the NAME 3 PAGE Class: RG12; Piece: 2764; Folio 86; Page 7; GSU roll: 6097874. 3 DATA 4 TEXT Birth date: abt 1850Birth place: Brampton, Derbyshire, 5 CONC EnglandResidence date: 1891Residence place: Brampton, Derbyshire, 5 CONC England 1 SOUR @S1@ - but this citation is at the same level as NAME and is subsidiary to INDI at level 0 so it is a Person citation, not a NAME citation. I'm surprised that "name" is "indi" in RootsMagic. I guess it made sense to someone. I will presume that RM6 is not changed from RM4 for name citation. Probably no one else noticed the problem before. Is the gedcom standard indi or name? If it's indi I need to question the Legacy people. I want the programs to be compatible because I want to use both. Of all the other available programs only TMG is a peer. And to Jim Winfrey, years ago I made several suggestions to Bruce and we had numerous exchanges. That was back when I was telling everyone on the genealogy newsgroups that FO was much better than the Banner Blue product (FTM). Bruce adopted some of my suggestions so, yes we can win. We just may not win them all. My apologies to Drew. It had been so long since I posted here... mea culpa. Absolutely correct, and the reason the tag is called INDI is because that's a four letter abbreviation for INDIvidual. Jerry
