Do you think it is worth using 600 dpi for the photos? Negatives, maybe, but there is a finite amount of info, and I settle on 300 dpi save to tiff files so there is no information loss. I have the Epson V750 and have been prescanning and then adjusting the histogram to the end points of the data for the most part. Some back I have changed so that they scan a little lighter and the writing is a little more legible. Good tip about numbering the images on the back. It would definitely facilitate retrieval of the original. I'll get my handy dandy archival pencil out and number these and go back and add the numbers to the metadata or rescan the backs.
