    3. Those are many comments and questions, Brenda. I'll try to answer some of them. Places and Place Details have fields for the entry of Latitude and Longitude, but no direct interface to a GPS device. Whatever your source of geographical coordinates, you have to enter them manually. Beware that if you enter decimal coordinates that negative values are West of Greenwich. Having geo-coded your Places and Place Details enables more useful mapping (Tools > Mapping > People) and Place List report, notably the option "Print events near a place". There is no Mac version. Bruce and Renee have stated that it is a goal but has to await a specific development tool. That said, there are some who have sucessfully run RM on a Windows Virtual Machine on a Mac, using one of Wine, Parallels, VMware Fusion, et al. RootsMagic To Go, installs a portable version of RootsMagic on a drive (commonly a USB portable flash drive) that can run on any Windows PC without being installed on the PC. It also compares database files between the base and the portable 'home' folders and carries out transfers between them under user control. I should think that a Mac with USB port and a Windows Virtual Machine should be able to have RootsMagic To Go installed and run and also be able to run the RM portable version on a flash drive. I'm pretty sure desktop and notebook Macs have USB ports but perhaps not the MacAir. As for RM on Android, not yet. A RM reader app for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch (i.e., any of the Apple iOS devices) is currently under beta test and has been promised for free release by Christmas (N.B. this is a read-only app, for now). I think we will have to wait and see how well RM installs or runs off the flash drive on Windows 8 tablets. I think the big issue will be the lack of mouse and keyboard and small screen size when working with an application that thrives on keyboard shortcuts and mouse interface and has very detailed screens. In my view, RM would need an extensive redesign to work well with a touch interface. For example, in Iowa, there is a Des Moines (town) and a Des Moines (county). To make it even more confusing, Des Moines, the town, is *not* in Des Moines, the county. For someone who would enter Des Moines, Iowa, I would "assume" they would mean the town of Des Moines, which is in Polk County, Iowa. Other times, though, when I have seen information entered for other states, not being familiar with the other state, I would often "assume" that what is entered could be the county, not the town or the village. At best, it's an impossible guess. Someone asked me if I am using GPS with RootsMagic. Does RM have GPS coordinates that can be entered somewhere? How does that work? I am familiar with GPS and have GPS in the car, but did not know that RM has GPS capabilities. The other person may have meant geocoding rather than GPS, but she said GPS. Another question I have been asked is whether or not there is a Mac version of RootsMagic. If not, are there plans for a Mac version? While on this same thought, I have to admit that I have never used the "RootsMagic to Go". It's my understanding that this allows RM to run from a USB drive on any computer. Is my understanding correct? If so, could a Mac user run RM from a USB drive? (Do Macs even have USB drives? I'm guessing NOT?) I have been thinking about getting a little tablet of some sort. I have been looking at the Android tablets, wondering if "RootsMagic to Go" could be run on one of them, but I don't think they have USB drives... so I think I have answered my own question there. I did find one tablet that did have a USB drive (not Android) which led me to wonder if "RootsMagic to Go" could be run on one of the small tablets. Microsoft is coming out with a Windows 8 platform on November 27th, or so I have read. The estimated retail price is around $200, so I imagine it wouldn't have enough gusto to run "RootsMagic to Go" -- or would it? Next February there is to be another Windows 8 platform tablet coming out that sounds like it can actually load Windows programs and run actual programs, so I will probably hold off and see what the future brings. I am getting ready to do a seminar this coming Saturday on features of RootsMagic v5, so I am trying to get ready for questions that I don't currently use. Thanks to all help anyone / everyone might be able to give me. 3. Hi Tom, Thank you for responding to my questions. Actually on tablet that I looked at (cannot remember which one because I looked at about 2 dozen different brands and models) had an add on keyboard that had a USB connection for a mouse, if you were so inclined to have a keyboard and mouse. It was a tiny keyboard, but still a keyboard. This was not an Android O/S, but I cannot remember what it was. That was the only brand and model that had a keyboard that could be purchased as an add on device. I often would like to have something available, just read only, just so I can verify a birth date / death date, etc. When traveling, I try to print out everything that I think I might ever want to know on the trip, and put into a notebook. I also do carry my laptop with me, but hate to take it into some libraries, and especially court houses, when I'm there to search, not look through a lot of books. Once in a while I will see a name and wonder if it's one of my ancestors / relatives, but I don't know the exact time period my person might have been there, so I'm never sure if it could be mine or just someone else with the same name. This is a good time to have some sort of tablet with my info in it. I do thank you for responding. It will help me a lot in case I get asked questions this Saturday about Macs and features that I really don't use (yet). I realize I'm not going to be able to answer all questions, but I can at least give some help. Brenda
