If the fact(event) is the same but worded differently you could edit the GEDCOM file in a word processor and do a search for the odd name and replace it with the standard one. You could do this before importing the GEDCOM into RootsMagic, or after you discover it in RootsMagic by exporting a GEDCOM and editing it. For example: Roots Magic has a standard fact: "Birth" Suppose that the original program called it "Born" RootsMagic lists a birth fact in it's GEDCOM exoprt as "1 BIRT " The original has it listed as "1 _BORN " Do a search and replace for "1 _BORN " and replace it with "1 BIRT " Save the edited document as plain text with the GED extension and import it into a new RootsMagic database. Both Alfred and Tom have the solutions I will use (but hated to hear). <grin> Every other genealogy program I have used has a means of combining (for example) census facts, residence facts etc. etc. RM is the only one where you have to manually use a word processor to make RM happy. Guess that will be my only out. I think I will try Alfred's method first (ie the RM Gedcom modification approach) and if I have any hair left I will give Tom's a try. Thank you both for your advice and help. I appreciate it.
