    3. The problem with that is that you can't search on them. You can't do a search for a place that "contains" that word.     3. As RM is now configured we can merge places. That replaces all the chosen alternatives with the primary place. What would be useful for the problem of alternative place names would be the ability to link places, so that every alternative place would point to the primary place without removing the original alternative name.
