    3. How are you trying to open it? A GEDCOM file is a plain text file that you should be able to open with WordPad or NotePad. Open the WordPad program first, the using it's File menu select OPEN, navigate to the folder, it sounds like it is the C:\desktop, at the bottom of the window, where is asks "Files of type", select all documents. Navigate to your file, keyes.ged and double click on it or highlight it and click on the open button displayed. You should see a text document, if so, you should be abble to write an email and attach it there. If you really want to see what is in that file, create a new file in RootsMagic and IMPORT the GEDCOM filr you just created.     3. Thank you Alfred and Tom. I posted the question for a girlfriend who uses RM4, but is not extremely computer literate. I should have asked her how she is trying to open it (or WHY she is trying to open it.) I'll ask more questions. MANY thanks.
