Jon, Yes, in a great many cases we do have pics, although many (not all) of the earlier ones are grave markers. My g-grandfather was a ship captain for example, and in his case we have pictures not only of him but a few of his ships. . .but no grave marker. He was cremated in 1934 and his ashes scattered at sea. My grandson doesn't start school until next Tuesday, but the little guy has been interested in the genealogy all summer while he stayed with us during the day. He asked if we could let him take some of this to school, so I would just like to give it to him, so that is the reason we are talking about some printouts and charts that might be appropriate for him to be able to take and explain to other kids. I had originally thought about a pedigree chart, but now we're looking at others as well. David E. I've been holding off contributing to this discussion because I'm afraid my comments are off-topic, but the discussion seems to be going that way. I agree about the photos. There's a company online where you can have a deck of cards made with photos on the front - 52 different photos, or 13 repeated 4 times. I think that would be a great learning tool. You could also make a match game using those cards or using photos of the ancestors and have him match the photos to stories, locations, spouses, etc. Lots of possibilities to keep your grandson's interest up and help him learn at the same time.
