It would be easiest for him to make a backup using RM3 and send you that file (it is actually a compressed ZIP file containing many files which make up the RM3 database). However, you will need to unzip it so that RM4 can see all the decompressed files. RM3's Restore function does that job but since you don't have it, you will need to use a ZIP utility such as WinZIP or 7-ZIP (free) to extract the files. We were not sure which would work, but certainly his db would be better than a gedcom as we wouldn’t lose as much. If you still have the RM3 database files, you might actually get better results by importing them directly rather than the GEDCOM. I opened RM4 and selected import gedcom (other sources) and it pulled in the file! Strange that it would not recognize a previous version of RM, but at least I got it! Nothing like making the old brain work harder! I have RM4 on my computer, but Win 7 will not let me open his file. When I tell it to open the file from a program installed on my computer, it shows a list of programs, but RM4 is not in the list! I tried importing the gedcom from RM4 but Win 7 refuses to show it to me. Can anyone coach me through this one? Oh, did I say I despise Win 7? Wish I had my XP back, that I understood. Believe it or not, this old packrat has the RM3 disk and just found it today, while looking for something else entirely. Can I install it on my Win 7 computer without it messing with RM4? Thanks again!
