What is a an easy to use and intuitive user interface and what is not is often in the eyes of the beholder. I think that in general RM has an elegant user interface that is very intuitive and that is very easy to use. However, I agree that the interface is much too clicky. It's hard to know if the clickiness could be reduced and still maintain the elegance and intuitiveness and ease of use of the interface. One thing that would help some users is the inclusion of many more hot keys. Versions of RM previous to Version 4 were much better equipped with hot keys than are Version 4 and Version 5. One thing that helps as you become more accustomed to RM is to play around with the different views. The Pedigree View is great for some things and not so great for others. It's especially good at navigating from one generation to another. The Family View is great for some things and not so great for others. The Descendant View is great for some things and not so great for others. Etc. So it helps to be in the View that's most appropriate for the task that you are currently performing. I would offer one tip with respect to the side panel on the left side of the screen. Just as the main part of the screen has several views available, the left side panel has several views available (except we probably should call them something other than "views" to avoid confusing them with the "views" in the main part of the screen). The left side panel defaults to its Index tab, and I suspect that most users have the left side panel set to the Index tab most of the time). I would offer as a suggestion that you might find the Family tab in the left side panel to be more useful most of the time than the Index tab. The Family tab in the left side panel is not to be confused with the Family view in the main part of the screen, and the Family tab can appear on the left side panel no matter which view you are using in the main part of the screen. In any case, the Family tab in the left side panel is extremely useful for what I can "short range navigation" - navigating to spouses, siblings, parents, and children. You have to click a person and then click "Go" (part of the excessive clickiness of the program), but for me at least it's the most useful left side panel most of the time. I use all the other left side panels as well, but not anywhere near as much as I use the Family tab in the left side panel. It requires many more mouse clicks to enter basic data and sources as well as to navigate from one generation to the other. Maybe it will get easier with practice. I really like the ease with which it handles my relatively large database--FTM totally bogs down. Bob
