Hi all, For some reason I can't wrap my mind around a good way to accomplish what I want... and I have not found anything to help in forums, book or such. It's a simple thing.. on my birth certificate my parents names are given as some "variation" of what they are or what I would call a "source name". Since this ain't their real name I would like to record it as a "source name" and it's not really an alternate name since it was only the way someone recorded it. Can I put this in the notes or the details or where. Anything I try is not what seems right to me and I was wondering how others handle it. Thanks, Rich
I transcribe or abstract the exact text/spelling of documents (in this case, a birth certificate) in the Source Detail Text field. When you open that tab, you will see it is further labeled as "Research Notes (summary, transcription, extraction, or text from the source)." This makes it easily accessible, but doesn't crowd the person's Notes fields, or reports like a Family Group Sheet, with what can be insignificant information. However, it prints out nicely on the Research Notes Report, so I can see in chronological order exactly what the original source documents say.
