Tom, I understand that, however, that is not the way that I work. I prefer the will or deed (or head of household) to be the source. To me, the microfilm (or will book) is not the source, the deed or will is. I was hoping someone could offer a suggestion for a way to do something similar in Rootsmagic. Entering the deed book information over and over again is redundant. Computers are supposed to do the work for us. And making the deed book the source doesn't work for me either. Currently I have 3500 sources that would need to be edited. If I changed to what you are suggesting, they'd not only have to be edited, but merged with other sources and the cleanup would be a nightmare. -----Original Message----- From: rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:rootsmagic-users-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Tom Holden Sent: Wednesday, December 19, 2012 7:57 PM To: rootsmagic-users@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RMagic] Repository questions If you make the microfilm the Master Source, then you enter it's details and the repository just the once for all 200 citations of it. I think I may be missing something. Perhaps the definition of what is a repository. I think Teresa is saying the microfilm is her repository. I may be misinformed, but isn't the Repository the location of where the original source is located or archived at? In this case, where your microfilm can be found (ie; FHL). Once I found the repository (where the microfilm is located), I could then look for the microfilm, (the master source) which would then take me to Item being referenced within the microfilm (the will or deed). In otherwords, the Source Details (the citation), would direct me to where within the microfilm, the actual source information was taken from (the will or deed being referenced) and any other necessary information that was provided. Then the Master Source (the microfilm info) can be memorized and reused for the next entry, and the next item would get a new citation (the next will or deed) can be entered into the source details. I've never seen a repository list printed in a genealogy report or pedigree, unless it was added as an addendum or supplement to the report. But I have seen many biographies (sources plus citations) that have provided information of the microfilm or book referenced and from where the information within the source was taken and any other related information such as the item reference ID, etc, when applicable, so I could find the information within source easily. AFAIK, no data from the Repository Address fields come out in a citation footnote or bibliography. There are some Source Templates that have their own repository fields but they do not connect to Repository Address fields. Excuse my terminology but I mean the fields under the Repository tab which are stored internally in the AddressTable. So the best place to put the info about the microfilm is in the Master Sources you create from it, if you want that info in a footnote or Bibliography.
