On the Select a source screen or the Source Template screen, all you have to do is start typing the name of rhe template, Typing cen will take you to the Census templates. Typing w will take you to source templates starting with W. On the Select a source screen, highlight a source template. Click on the star just to the left of the Favorites menu at the top of the screen. The star next to the menu will turn gold and the template is added to the Favorites menu. Clicking on the star again removes the template from the menu. Add a frequently used source template to the Master source list as a source. Start the source name with a character and Template. It will sort to the top of the list. Enter any information that will always be used with a source from that template, such as County and State, special directions to yourself for when you use that source entered into the text or comments, or Repositories. When you want to use that source template again, copy the source template from the Master source list and make needed changes to the copy. I use this method for my Free Form sources. In the Master source text for the template source, I enter a source detail template for data to be entered into the Page number box for that type source. This can be read in or copied from the right pane when entering the source detail. Making a Master source template is the answer to not having to do the same thing over and over again. For instance, I have different source templates for censuses for the counties and states I use the most. I only have to change the year and the NARA number and roll and the source name. I suggest your friend go to http://www.bcgcertification.org/ for specific information on what it takes to get certified. Laura --------------- From: Paul Studly <paulstudly@att.net> I pointed her toward the <web site multiple databases> choice and she initially thought that would be a big help. Primary sources obtained via internet services were troubling her especially. Of course "W" for "web . . . " is near the bottom of the choice listing. <sigh> It might be helpful to others if <web site multiple databases> were the second item in the listing of choices given its common use these days. <Free form> is all right if one is not bothered by repeatedly DOING THE SAME THING. HAVING LEARNED THAT CREATING ONE'S OWN TEMPLATES ARE POSSIBLE WILL HELP TOO. I over heard that one had to submit 5 samples and that approval was quite fussy.
