Carol, I'm also new to RM having come from TMG. I've already experienced problems in that the rootsmagic operation does not run as smoothly or is not as well-oiled as TMG. I won't go into detail on the list, but if Bruce Buzbee, and the company wants to expand its presence and profitability in the marketplace it will have to become better organized. Lee Hoffman (TMG Admin) was very lenient but fair. He understood the significance of issues like this and gave leeway. Drew Smith (RM Admin) is trying to prevent the discussion from getting out of hand or becoming an ongoing problem for him. Most people would obviously prefer the more lenient method of admin the list because we are adults. I agree with everyone that the discussion is pertinent to RM which is the basis for this list. Unfortunately, the genealogy database companies are all about making a profit or the bottom line which includes Ancestry/RootsWeb which is a Heritage competitor that also provides this discussion list. Perhaps, if enough people contacted Drew off-list [ [email protected] ] , and provided their perspective to lobby him to be more lenient, he might change or at least moderate his position or stance. The decision is completely up to Drew, the list admin, but it couldn't hurt to contact him regarding your preference as to how the list should be admin when there are gray areas or questions like the one that arises. Good luck! The administrator of the TMG list was very lenient, only prohibiting a discussion if it was really off topic AND had really gone on too long. I can't imagine why this discussion would be off limits as it seems important to me to learn whether or not my genealogy program is integrated with a shady company. That's scary!
