    3. I keep the last information from each of the previous versions also. I create a directory similar to you - Rootsmagic5, Rootsmagic6, Rootsmagic7. Under each one I create some sub-folders for the program's use - - Backups (I keep a copy in the RM directory as well as elsewhere) - Gedcoms (for various gedcoms I prepare for others) - Reports (the default for any reports I save) - Database (where any databases reside) - Web (where I save any websites I create) And a few others I keep my source and family files (vital records, census, scanned book pages, etc) elsewhere in another file structure, not in the RM directories, so that as I upgrade RM I don't have to move them, which would cause bad links and I'd have to clean that up. When I upgraded to 7, I created a RM7 directory and installed it there. Then I created the sub-folders. Then I COPIED my current zuber.rmgc file from the RM6/Database folder into the RM7/Database folder. Once I opened this new file in RM7, I updated the program and file properties to make sure they point at the new directories and not at the old RM6 directories and that it has all the settings I like. So now I have my RM6 data as of the last time I updated it still residing in my RM6 folder. And I have a new copy of it that I can now open and continue updating in RM7. I know some people would say this is overkill but it's the way that seems most comfortable to me. I'm always hesitant about totally converting a file until I've worked with an upgrade (any program, not just RM) so this way if something goes wrong I can easily go back to my last RM6 file and keep working with that. It is so frustrating to lose these with every upgrade. RM 6 is installed in C:\Rootsmagic6 and my data is in C:\RM6data. Where should I install version 7 to make this happen? I usually keep all my old versions, but guess I don't have to keep all. I do not plan to compare my database with FamilySearch or any other large database. I am assuming I can turn this feature off. I also do not want to have the program make changes to the way I have entered places. Can that feature also be turned off?
