    3. Apparently I'm overdue in making my annual welcome to the RootsMagic-Users list. In place of that, I will make the unfortunately necessary reminder that this list exists to discuss *RootsMagic*, and this list does *not* exist to discuss whether or not someone should or should not subscribe to MyHeritage. Now that you've all been reminded, I can expect this list to get back to the purpose of its existence. Happy New Year! Drew Smith RootsMagic-Users List Administrator

    3. Hi Drew, This is a very narrow view of the purpose of the list, in my opinion. "*Topic:* A mailing list for the discussion and sharing of information regarding the RootsMagic genealogy software program from RootsMagic." WebHints from MyHeritage is now a feature of RootsMagic which is useless without a subscription to MyHeritage. So a discussion about the RootsMagic WebHints feature cannot be separated from the question of the subscription. If somebody asks, "is it worthwhile upgrading to RM7?", how can it be answered without touching on the cost and benefits of a MyHeritage subscription? 3. Totally agree with you, Tom - and I'm unsettled by the statement that equates to a fiat - that there is no further discussion - . Isn't that attitude antithetical to the whole concept of an email list? Considering the fact that Roots Magic had incorporated familysearch and My Heritage inextricably into the program, it's difficult to understand why Roots Magic administration isn't interested in permitting further discussion. I am assuming that you are voicing the opinion of Roots Magic - is that incorrect? 3. Well, not totally useless. I've gotten valuable hints from MyHeritage, though of course one can't take full advantage without the subscription. I have a suggestion, though. Any mileage in looking to get a similar arrangement with Ancestry? Dunno, maybe Family Tree Maker has that sewed up, which would be way too bad because Family Tree Maker is crappy software that can't even handle the depth of research that Ancestry supports. Whether or not it is a very narrow view, as it happens it is the only view that actually counts here. And discussing what is or is not on topic for this list is not up for debate on this list. > WebHints from MyHeritage is now a feature of RootsMagic which is useless > without a subscription to MyHeritage. By answering "One new feature of RM7 is to provide WebHints if you have a subscription to MyHeritage. However, discussing whether or not one should have a subscription to MyHeritage is off-topic for this list.". Just as we do not discuss whether or not one should participate in the shared tree on FamilySearch (despite the fact that RootsMagic can synchronize with such a tree), we do not discuss whether or not one should have a subscription to MyHeritage. Clear now? Drew
