    3. That is sometimes the only thing one can do if a computer hangs. However, it isn't a good solution long term. It can corrupt your operating system. In fact, last fall, when I was helping college students connect their assorted devices to an ISP, one of those students who always just presses the power off button and won't be talked into shutting it down properly, found right at that exact moment that the computer wouldn't boot. He'd corrupted the operating system. In the long run one needs to figure out why the computer is hanging and solve that problem. Also, there is more that one can do with control alt delete to shut down a hung program than either of us put in our posts last night before Emery St Cyr resorted to the power button. When I have problems with RM, once out of the problem, I always restart the computer. Often we may have several programs open at the same time, which can occasionally cause conflicts. Starting with a fresh reboot clears out the computer's memory and may well solve the problem. You may not lose anything by turning off the computer, but it is always wise to backup your RM database every hour or so. It does not take much time, and it gives one peace of mind should some problem occur Margaret Scheffler -----Original Message----- From: Emery St Cyr via I was on rm6 and clicked on the person that I wanted to add a fact to and when I clicked on add a fact I got the little blue circle that goes around next to the pointer and it never goes off and I can't do anything on rm. I can go back to office 2010 and use it but and look at other mail but can nut shut down or do anything with rm. Can I just turn off the computer? Will I lose anything? =================================== RM list Archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/ROOTSMAGIC-USERS/ http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/search?path=ROOTSMAGIC-USERS WISH LIST: http://www.rootsmagic.com/forums/ BLOG: http://blog.rootsmagic.com/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com
