Can anyone out there kindly send me a link for his/her shiny new webpage on the My RootsMagic sites that now come with RM7 please? I've just created the new account and am very seriously thinking about putting a new page on it, but would like to take a look at one in place before taking up some of Bruce's server space. Thanks. On a side but related note, what is the difference in a few words between the "Pre-RootsMagic 6" option and the "RootsMagic 6" option in creating a webpage with RM7? RM7 is the 15th version (including the old FO) I have used, but the website I created with RM6 and uploaded myself can now only be created using RM7's "PRE-RootsMagic 6" option. I've finally figured this out, but not without some confusion because I do not recall any RM6 webpage that was any different that one from RM5, but am I missing something? I understand now that the so-called RM6 version is not HTML but something else, so after creating one I deleted it until I learn something about it, but I cannot believe that I missed this option entirely for the couple of years that I used version 6 if such is the case. I would appreciate hearing from someone who can explain it to me. I was fortunate to have exchanged a couple of emails on the subject with Bruce not long ago, and I think I left him a little peeved with me trying to explain this, so if anyone replies please don't assume that I know anything on this specific feature because I clearly and obviously do not. :-( David E. Jesse, Thank you. This is the same type of page I got when I tried to register for my "MyRootsMagic" with RM7, but apparently it is the same using the "RootsMagic 6" option as well. Not quite sure I understand that though, because I created and updated my webpage on a regular basis with RM6, but NOW it is done with the "Pre-RootsMagic 6" option. That is what is confusing me, but it seems I need to do some more homework on this before I really understand it. I do like this format of webpage though, but if it is "not HTML" then before I replace my old (and current) page, I need to understand the difference and how to post the pages. After all of these years using this software though, I am suddenly feeling like a newbie once again. :-( David From: Jesse Davis [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, January 22, 2015 3:33 PM To: David E. You need to register for the RM 7 website. Then you can use any of the options to create a website. Once registered then this will be your user name and password regardless of the site type you create. Jon On Sat, Jan 24, 2015 at 3:29 PM, David E. The RM6 version creates HTML files that you can view on your computer, the RM7 version does not. I don't know what RM7 does, but it does it quickly and they look pretty good. The Pre RM6 (RM5?) is different in that it produces various pages or FGS sheets or books. Not the pedigree view that you can scroll around in like RM6 or RM7. Both the RM6 and RM7 pages look pretty much the same when viewed on the web. The main difference I've noticed is that the indexing is much neater in RM7. To get a quick look at the two check out these sites: http://my.rootsmagic.com/Hoffpauir/ For my old site created with RM6 http://sites.rootsmagic.com/CharlieHoffpauir/ for my new site created with RM7 Unfortunately, I never used RM5 or earlier web site creation tools. -- Charlie Hoffpauir http://my.rootsmagic.com/CRHoffpauir/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~charlieh/ http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.hoffpauir http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Hoffpauir
Charlie, Thank you for the reply, but it seems obvious (at least to me) than I need to do some more homework on this new RM7 webpage to better understand how to use it. I do like the format though.
