For instance, Ancestry.com trees and Family Tree Maker can theoretically exchange data seamlessly because they are under the control of the same programmers, but the same cannot be said regarding RootsMagic and trees from other companies. And because sources are managed by different source templates in different programs, what is going to happen in many cases is that sources imported from other programs will be imported into RootsMagic as free-form citations. (There are no doubt exceptions to this.) Having said all that, the following data formats should import into RootsMagic with issues as minimal as practical: Family Tree Maker (version 16 and earlier) PAF (versions 2.x and later) Family Origins (versions 4 and later) Legacy (versions 2 and later) TMG GEDCOM 5.5 FamilySearch Family Tree Drew Smith
