The ancestor line doesn't care about multiple children, it only picks the parents of each generation. If one of the persons in the line happens to have more than one set of parents, natural, adopted, step etc. then the line follows the last one you looked at in the program. I do not understand the rest of your question. "Backward to me"? which way is backward, from your grand parents to you or from your grand children to you? Descendants lists will choose all the children.
